Suggestion for Hybrid "Sufferers"

Post by Sleepless on LI » Thu Aug 31, 2006 1:21 pm

For those of you who bought the Hybrid and have experienced leaking to the point of not wanting to use it, I did two alterations that seem to work. Like we always say, YMMV, but they seem to make things much better for me.

First I did what was suggested earlier and cut the chin piece off the medium seal. Then I still had problems with leaks from the pillows, so I took a very thin rubber band (yes, here we go again with rubber bands) and gently pulled the two pillows together at the bottom most ridge of the cushions. This totally eliminated the leaks I was getting from the pillows. It's kind of like when you put a twister seal or something like that around the two sides of the pillow piece for the Aura/Headrest to bring them in closer together to help leaks. It works for the Hybrid, too.

You may want to try this without cutting off the chin flap first. My problem was, I think my nose was too high for the pillows if the chin flap was in place and it didn't allow the pillows to enter my nose enough, even on the highest cushion position. By removing the chin flap, it allowed me to be able to move the mask upward and enabled the pillows to correctly enter the nares. But they still leaked, so the rubber band bringing them together helped stop that.

Let me know if it helps anyone else.

Thanks SLOLI. Hey, that sounds like slowly....

I'm running down to the company supply cabinet RIGHT NOW to see if we have any little rubber bands. Either that or I'm going to go over to by brothers house and see if any of his kids have rubber bands left over from their braces. I remember they had all kinds of colors to make the teenage mouth more attractive to onlookers...

WOW, thanks! What an interesting idea to make a gasket of sorts with a rubberband. If I had leaks with my Hybrid, I would give it a try. Great thinking.

Tim,

They don't have to be little, per se. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Thin is the key so that it can fit itself into the cushion ridge easily. Mine was a bit loose so I wrapped it around twice. Just enough tension to bring the openings close together.

Hope it works for you like it did for me. You, too, sidesleeper. Let me know how you make out.
