Hybrid modification

Post by ladytonya » Mon Aug 28, 2006 12:36 pm

I just received my new Hybrid headgear and WOW! It is a thousand percent better than the original headgear! Much thicker and sturdier and the velcro seems much sturdier. I have one question. Does the velcro go against your face or should it face out like on the original headgear? Mine does not have a label and it's formed like it should be against your face but I can't imagine that would be comfortable. Regardless, this headgear is such an improvement over the original! I can't wait to get home tonight and try it on!

The velcro on the original that was shipped with the mask sort of stops working. I've never before in my life seen Velcro that stops being sticky, but they've somehow managed it. I should get my upgraded version in the next day or two. If memory serves, snoozy suzy was the first to call and get the new headgear and post it here so I think we all have her to thank for figuring this out. I could be wrong. No offence if it was someone else.

In the meantime, I've lab ratted my hybrid headgear. I borrowed the blue strap tightening things from my swift headgear to use on the top two pieces of the hybrid gear to hold them together. That is the part that I'm having the most problems with. I think I would have soon mothballed this mask if they had not fixed the problem with the headgear. It's a really bad problem that would have sort of tainted an otherwise very good interface.

I hadn't actually started having any real problems with the old headgear but I could tell that the velcro was going to lose it's grip. Over time, sometimes cheap velcro will lose its grip but I've never seen it happen as fast as it was happening on this mask. The strap on top of my head was fine, for me it was the bottom straps that were coming lose. Anyway, I get to try my new interface tonight. Just looking at the new one, I can tell that it is going to be so much better!

I just hope I can keep it on me. I have this problem that my asleep self doesn't like having it on her face even though my awake self is used to it and can wear it for hours watching television and even take a short nap without taking it off during the day. If I make it through more then 4 hours without taking it off, i will probably have a Hybrid party tomorrow morning!

ladytonya,
I'm not sure exactly how the headgear is supposed to go either. Because the smoother side that you would think would be facing out is akward to thread the straps thru the plastic pieces that way. I originally started out with the duller side facing out, and the velcro straps inside touching my face, it seemed that the mask wanted to turn in that way, but I found it tough to adjust the straps keeping it that way, so I turned the mask back the other way, smooth side against face, and straps and velcro outside, not touching my face. Hope that doesnt' sound to confusing. Either way the new headgear rocks compared to the old one.

Suzy

Is there a picture of the new headgear that is available. I want to ask my DME to order a Hybrid for me and I don't want to get the old headgear if there is an improved version available.

A picture won't help much because the new headgear looks just like the old. The big difference is that the old is about 1/16" thick and the new is 3/16" thick. The new one does not have the hybrid label on it. The straps are about 1/8" wider, the velcro is heavy duty. No matter which headgear you get, if you have a problem you can call innomed and they will do everything they can to help you fix the problem. They have great customer service!
As for which way it goes...The velcro has to go on the outside so you can adjust it!! Mine came with the clips on it, I clipped it on Just like the old one was clipped on, and that left the velcro strap on the outside. Works great!

Am I the only one that likes the original headgear?

Am I the only one who likes the original headgear?

I have been using the Hybrid for 17 days. It took me 5 nights to cut off the chin flap/get the right size mask and pillows/get the headgear adjusted.

The last 12 nights I have made no adjustments on the headgear. I like that the headgear is light weight and cool.

Of course if the velcro stops holding, I will change my mind.

Great mask and I am feeling much better.

Once I got home and took the old headgear off the mask, it was obvious how the new headgear fit. Of course the velcro goes on the outside. It has to or you would never be able to adjust it when it is on. Oops! Anyway, I just spent about 5 minutes with it in front of the mirror and I think I've got it adjusted.

Rooster, I agree with you about the original headgear. I really like the fact that it is so light. The new material is light in actual weight, i.e. it's not heavy, but it is thicker and I'm sure it's going to be warmer. But it is also more padded. I had the old gear adjusted fairly loose and it was still leaving marks on my face. I didn't mind because they went away after I showered, but the new one doesn't feel like it's going to do that because it is more padded. Of course, I'll find out tonight exactly how it does. If I don't like it, I will go back to the other one and just replace the velcro myself. However it goes, this mask is awesome!

For marks from your mask, try PAD-A-CHEEKS. They work great!

I had the same problem - when I got the new headgear the velcro was on the inside - which won't work at all- so I switched to the outside and it works just fine - I think they are shipping it out wrong!! In any case, this is my second night with the hybrid and I managed to sleep almost the entire night with it on - it took me almost 2 weeks do that with my ff F&P mask...so far, so good. I never used the previous headgear - I waited to try this mask until I got the revised headgear. Get the new headgear!!
