Women and the Hybrid
Women and the Hybrid
Some time ago, not too long after the Hybrid came on the market, there was some speculation that this mask might be a better fit for men than women due to the smaller facial structure. I've tried to read most of the posts about the Hybrid, but with forum names being what they are, it is often difficult to tell if the poster is male or female.
So, that brings up my question. How are the women out there doing with the Hybrid? I get to have a new interface in about a month, so I'm really interested in hearing from female Hybrid wearers as well as those who tried it and didn't like it.

The Hybrid works great for me. I'm still playing around with the different pillow and cushion sizes to find the perfect combination, but overall it has been great. I am one of the ones with a fat face and I have high cheekbones if that helps at all. Good luck!

so far, so good
I've been using the hybrid for just 2 nights and it's been great. I am underweight and consequently have a long, narrow face. I've been using the medium sized mask and haven't had trouble with leaks.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I've been using the hybrid for 3 weeks now. The RT said my face was too small for this mask, and several other masks. I have NO problems with this mask at all! I use the med cushion and just started the med pillows(I was using sm pillows with no problems and wanted to try med). The small cushion also works but is less comfortable. The large cushion works now that I cut off the chin flap. The only part I can't use are the large pillows.
I do think that this mask is the main reason(along with c-flex) that I stay 100% compliant.

I have fitted over 30 patients in the sleep clinic already with this Hybrid within the past 6 weeks. I recall about 7-8 being women of varying facial profiles. I had no problems whatsoever. The key is to get the right pillow + oral cushion combination and tightening the headstraps correctly. In my opinion, this Hybrid is probably the most versatile mask because it gives so many options to make it to work.
I must have missed this thread. I am a woman and I have a long face. I have high cheekbones. My first few nights I cut the chinflap off the medium size and ended up going to the small size with the chinflap on and I'm so glad I did because it DOES have a medical benefit, just like everyone says. It helps keep my big mouth shut! That's medical benefit enough for me.
My mouth gets dry if I keep it open all night I keep the humidifier on 1 so it will last all night long, but on 1,2,3 or 4, it doesn't matter because I believe the mouth should be shut as much as possible wile sleeping. It's just better.
Don't get me wrong, one of the reasons i bought the Hybrid was so I could breath through my mouth if I wanted to and If I'm very congested I have no choice. When I'm free of congestion, I try to breathe through my nose.
The Hybrid has kept me in bed at night and off the potty and no other mask has succeeded in that area for me. I was still getting up once a night until this month and now, I am sleeping all through the night as comfortable as I have ever slept in my life.
This mask is not without it's little problems but in my opinion, it's light years ahead of anything on the market and a MUST HAVE for every woman suffering from menopause or any condition that gets you up to the potty after you go to bed. I am showing a 15% lower pressure demand and I attribute it to the Hybrid mask. I would like to know if anyone else has noticed anything like that.I know about the lower AHI's , but anyone else getting by with lesser pressures? I am not loosing weight or anything.

I have used the Hybrid for 3 weeks-small cuschion and med pillows-with the pillows on high position. The Hybrid is more fussy that the 406 was and last night it leaked badly-I never woke up enough to take it off and switch to the 406 or even reposition the Hybrid securely. The Hybrid is very comfortable and usually don't have major leaks. My numbers are a little higher but I think I sleep on my back more with the Hybrid-actually I sleep more with the hybrid. It is tempting to get one of thos wrist sleep monitors -get actual hours of sleep and recalculate the numbers.
