Another trick for the Hybrid

Post by oldgearhead » Sun Aug 13, 2006 10:13 am

I used the Hybrid all last month and the results were/are great. However, the only ways I could stop the leaks from the mouthpiece was to either wear the medium one and my upper partial plate, or use spacers and a strap with the large mouthpiece.

The problems with those solutions are:
Medium + partial plate = very large sore on my gum.
Large + strap = I had to tie the strap very tight and the thing want's to 'whistle' half the night.

So you the last two nights, I have tied the old rubber chin strap over my head and under my jaw. Next I push it back until I have two very nice 'chipmunk' cheeks. Then, I put on the Hybrid.

With this approach, I seem to be able to use either mouthpiece, and no leaks!

Don't try this at home. Your mileage may vary. You will have marks on your face. This is not the proper position for a chin-strap, and it may be habit forming...

Oldgearhead,
I know you cut your chin flap off. Did you remove the chin flap on all your cushions? I was thinking wile reading one of your early posts that you might end up using a large , wide , chinstrap OVER your Hybrid once in place. I almost posted it as a suggestion, but I did ot want to sound like the novice that I am.

Isaac - Yes, I have done that quite a few times. I used one of those chin-straps that have a hole for your chin. However, I think it may be more effective to use it to make 'chipmunk cheeks'..

..btw - I put a couple of Pad-A-cheeks on the lower straps, last night.
This morning's inspection found no marks. Aren't Pad-A-Cheeks great?

The mechanically generated 'chipmunk cheeks' is still working very well.
Three nights and counting..
