Is this the case with the hybrid?

Post by idahogal » Wed Aug 09, 2006 8:16 pm

It seems to me that the hybrid seems to work better for people with a more rounded face vs. a long thin face. It seems the full cheeks make for a better fit???? If this is the case than I am a perfect candidate for the hybrid..LOL.

I certainly hope you are right about the round face cuz I consider mine to be somewhat round. My sleep clinic has a Hybrid on order for me to try out. I'll post back to this thread and let y'all know if it worked.

Hybrid fits me nicely.
I guess it could be said my cheeks have some chub in them

I would be thrilled if this was true. I am waiting for my hybrid to come in and have been hesitant. If the chub makes it seal then it should be no problem for me..LOL

So I should go on a weight-gain program while waiting for my hybrid mask?

Absolutely correct! The fatter the cheeks the better the fit.

I was afraid of that-bittersweet confirmation. In fact I was thinking about it during my AM shower. I do have little creases in the corners of my mouth (aging skin). I don't think Oil of Olay is going to do the trick so it's off to my favorite DME to get some ostomy paste. That should fill in creases nicely might stabilize the mask too.

I agree that the design of the Hybrid (shell and facial molds) seems to offer more expansion for those with full faces rather than contraction for those with more narrow faces.
(And even those full face users might have to deal with leak issues as facial tissue relaxes and shifts during sleep.)

I had posted a similar thought in my post from a few weeks back. I have a very round, fleshy face, although I'm not overweight. But still very "cheeky". I think because some of the shells don't have as much curve to them, esp the large size Hybrid shell, if a person has a longer thinner face, or higher cheekbones they might have more leaks.

this is a link to my previous post (long) 4th paragraph down,,,,,

Oldgearhead, ok you said it not me! This is exactly what I was asking but I was trying not to stir the pot...LOL . There is a gift to just laying it out there and you did. Thank you.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess now it is just waiting for the hybrid to come in. I cant wait now.

I have chubby cheeks too and high cheekbones and a long face.
I noticed that when I lose cushion seal if I fill my cheeks up with air that often the seal gets re-established and then I can slowly let the air seep out of the cheeks. I also have the mouth crease problem like krousseau which probably doesn't help but I haven't tried spackling it yet.

I'm VERY happy to hear all of this! I have a very round face. Some would call me rotund, I just say Im' fat! I will be picking up my hybrid from the DME tomorrow. He had not seen the mask before I requested one and now that he's read more about it he ordered several. He said that he actually fit someone with it this afternoon and he's already ordered more. He loves it! I can't wait until tomorrow! I get my hybrid and get to trade in my ResMed Escape S8 for an Elite w/ EPR. I am really hoping these two things answer all my prayers and I can start getting decent sleep!
