Smartcard failure
Smartcard failure
Ugh!
First off, thanks all for your help. My AHI went from 180 or so down to between 1 and 2. Still kind of adjusting to it I suppose - ocassionally I want to roll over asnd sleep on my stomach... with nthe ff mask on, that tends to grind the forehead strut right into my, well, forehead. One night I even took the piece off mid-sleep (I remember doing it) but it's no good when I roll back over, of course.
I'm on 16/14 bipap... my leakages seem high, but I'm not sure how much the vent ports ;et out naturally. I have the mirage activa ff mask w/ the above pressure settings. Does anyone know the baseline pressure that should be venting on me?
More important - I seem to have screwed my smartcard up royally. Encorepro won't erase nor download data from it now, and the machine beeps like crazy when I insert it. Gives an error C220, beeps and flashes lights. Doesn't go away either, unless I remove card. Machine is totally unusable with card in.
The Mako cardreader utility sees the reader as present. Has an unknown protocol and returns a card state of SC_UNKNOWN I believe.
So... any suggestions? Sure doesn't seem to be the reader. Only thing I've done since everything was last working was to try turning the machine into Auto with biflex (hey, I just gotta!) to see if that makes any difference.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Oh, preview in encorepro DOES work - it returns my ID and sn (as normal).
I'm no fan of smartcards... having done a lot of <ahem> research on them and directv. A -very- closed architecture.

did you happen to swap it out hot, e.g. when the machine is running? i saw somewhere on the boards where someone did that and their card no longer worked properly.

yep, hotswapped it. Been doing that (well, for the week I've had the reader) but that might explain the problem (not that a hotswap should do that... but smartcards suck).
Any ideas on reinitializing the card? Or maybe shipping the bastard back to where i bought the machine from for a replacement (at worst)?
what was odd was thst, since I got the reader, it has refused to -write- to the card. Simply gives the same error message that it's now giving. I feel that if I could just erase it It'd work...

i dunno, i don't have the reader or the software yet, so i haven't had that prob yet. i think it would prolly be better to try to get another one, sorry man. maybe someone else will think of something else to try.

I mentioned this problem in an earlier post. In my case it was because I was trying to use the card on two computers and it apparently got confused. Same result though -- error message, beeping, etc.
You might try clearing your data off of your PC and then downloading what's currently on the smart card. DISCLAIMER: I'm no expert on these things but have tinkered with computers for a lot of years. On the other hand, if the thing isn't working as it is, you probably wouldn't lose anything by trying.

I don't think your Smartcard is bad. I have 2 Mako readers, one USB the other Serial on 2 different computers. I've been trying to load it on a Sony S260 laptop with docking station, it has like a half dozen USB Hubs showing up.
I tried following all the Mako directions on installing the software first, rebooting then plugging the the USB reader it found it went through all the screens it was supposed to, I hit "Continue" at the not certified to run on XP, it loaded the 2800.sys driver and appeared to load fine.
I get the same error message, from the Mako Tools, it CANNOT find the reader on the USB port(s) even using the Mako utility. I went to their website, downloaded every driver they had for Windows, still no luck.
I loaded EncorePro 1.5.77, and it loaded just fine but when you select USB from the maintenace menu, it just sits there like it is hanging. Then Encore reports it cannot find the reader.
So I uninstalled everything reloaded EP version 1.24, it would not even load on XP Home, complained about everything. So I again cleaned it up, removed SQL7 engine, cleaned up the directories and removed the regsitry entries. EncorePro 1.5.77 loaded just fine again but still will not see the USB Infineer reader. I did the DT3500 off the CD-Rom, downloaded, didn't seem to matter other than the driver was never written for XP (Only W2k, W95/98).
But your SmartCard is probably fine, I had a spare SmartCard, mine was responding just like yours was (SC_unknown, etc.), I took it to the other computer that has it all up and running on a Serial version reader and Erased the card and the card worked again just fine.
The only thing I could suggest:
Try it on another computer, make sure the USB reader is the only USB device plugged into the "root" HUB if any. When I get some more time I'll play with it more, but right now it seems the problem is with the Mako driver (mine loads just fine in Device Manager, no question mark or anything but Mako utility cannot find it). The CD-Rom I got has old drivers on it, but the one I downloaded wasn't much newer.
The desktop computer I have it working on has a dedicated USB 2.0 PCI card installed. Make sure the reader gets plenty of voltage from the USB port. When it reads the card it will turn the LED green.

Here is their website, you might try downloading a new version.

They have just the driver only, or driver and utility in the executable.
