Question for all who have the Hybrid

Post by Bonnie » Sat Jul 08, 2006 11:52 am

Can those of you who are currently using it tell us if you are side sleeper, back sleepers or stomach sleeper, or a combination of any/all? Any any problems you feel are cause by your preference? I am curious to know if this mask has more problems with leakage in any of the sleeping positions. Thanks!

I am a side-sleeper and seem to have problems with a small leak onto my cheek when I sleep on my side. But, I am going to try BENZOIN TINCTURE on suggestion of Lori, and see if that will solve the problem. It is a minor leak, but annoying anyway.

Hi Bonnie,
I leep on back and side every night. For side sleeping, here is my mask perference, best to worst.

1) HC431
2) Hybrid
3) CL2
4) Adam Circuit

Both the Hybrid and the CL2 require a slight adjustment when I move to my side. The HC431 stays in place.

I am a side sleeper for the most part. I am learning to sleep on my back, but I'd say that's maybe 20% of my night.

I do naturally sleep on the edge of the pillow (fluffy down), so I think that gives me a bit of an advantage over side-sleepers who sleep in the middle of the pillow.

I'm noting all of this for my review, which I will post after another 4 or 5 days of use

i like to sleep on my back for the most part but i do roll onto my side sometimes, and occasionally on my stomach which i try not to do, but anyways last night was my first night with the hybrid and i only tried it on my back for the most part and on my side just for a small while, i noticed like what was posted earlier if you sleep on your side you will have to readjust it to get the optimum seal. i will be writing my review on it next saturday.

Bonnie, I'm pretty much 50/50 side and back sleeper. No doubt about it, I find the leaks at the mouthpiece corners when I shift to my side. I plan to try Lori's hint about the Benzoin Tincture to see if it will address the problem. Also, I will use my PAPillow tonight so that the hose has more space to hang freely.

Just one night with the Hybrid....but no leaks for this side sleeper. I did have some mask marks, but I'll loosen the straps tonight.

I slept my first night with no major problems except for one. At 3 am the mask, the apap, and I all had a melt down. The apap was loud, the leaks from the mask were uncontrollable and coming from every where, and I woke up and didn't want to. I shut down the unit, refitted the mask...and slept soundly the rest of the night. I side sleep. I did not find any more problems the rest of the night.

I did spend about two hours fitting myself with the mask and almost gave up. I love my Activa....but I will go again tonight and see what happens. The neat thing is that I do not have to worry about dry desert mouth---at least I didn't have it last night. Right now, I have an open mind but I really love my Activa still. I will be happy to love my Hybrid too....if it lets me.

I have been using the Hybrid Mask for 6 nights so my experience is limited. Plus this is the first mask I have ever used. I am a side sleeper trying to sleep on my back as I found I have less leakage sleeping on my back.. I have gotten some leakage when sleeping on my side, however I have a rather full face (fat cheeks) and I am still adjusting the straps on my mask. I do recommend using Pad-A-Cheek which will eliminate the marks on your face in the morning and they add comfort to your Hybrid Mask.

Side sleeeper pillow question

Post by kteague » Sat Jul 08, 2006 7:20 pm

Any side sleepers using a Tempur-Pedic pillow with the Hybrid? Someone recommended it with the Swift but didn't know about the Hybrid. I'm waiting to benefit from everyone else's experience before making a decision on the mask. I must sleep on my side. Like my Breeze well enough but can't use when too congested so would like alternative.

Yes, I have a Tempur-pedic pillow and sidesleep. Last night was only my 2nd with the Hybrid, but I sleep on the edge of the pillow with no problems.

I sleep on both sides usually and find the Hybrid to be very accomodating for this position. I have only been using mine for 2 nights and still am trying to get the fit right, so I can't say whether side sleeping is more leaky than any other position yet. I'm going to write a formal review of this mask after a couple more nights of usage.
