ResMed S8 Auto Vantage Numbers...
I have a friend that just got a Auto Vantage. I have a S8 Elite. I was able to show him how to access the Clinical Menu and read his data but it looks the same as my data. I thought there was a way on the APAP to see what the high and low pressure for the night had been but it only shows the same info my CPAP shows??? I assume either I am looking in the wrong place or you need the card reader and software to get that info.
Thanks to everyone here for all of the knowledge shared on this forum! You have no idea how much help you all have provided to get my CPAP working for me. I have had it a About 6 weeks and with the info you all have provided I have finally, in the last 2 nights, been able to get my AHI below 5.0. Somehow the CPAP Fairy magically adjusted the pressure on my machine from 12.0 to 13.0 and the AHI's started shrinking. Before your help my AHI's were running in the mid-teens for the first 2 or 3 weeks. Thank you all again!

S8 Elite
The S8 Vantage and Elite models display the SAME efficacy and usage (compliance) data, and the data is accessed in the same way. The efficacy data doesn't include high and low pressures, just the 95% pressure (I don't know if the software will display either highs and lows or time at pressure since I don't have or use ResMed AutoScan).
Regarding your S8 Elite's mysteriously changing pressure, though I'm thrilled that its helped your response,a nd that your feeling better, the S8 Elite has NO auto logic to it, so if the pressure changed and you didn't change it, I'd bring it back awful quick cause there's something wrong with it, and you don't have any idea what pressure it'll "choose" for you next; 20 cmH2O????
If you happen to know the identity of your fairy however, disregard this.
CONGRATS!
Chuck

LOL! I think if you're reading between the lines, he does know the said "fairy". Hehe. I guess it's just as easy to adjust settings on the CPAP as the APAP
Below 5.0? With the help of GoofyUT I've gotten mine down to 5.1 (and actually 3.7 the night before but I went back to sleep and it went up to 5.2) with 30 minutes of settling time. GoofyUT, do you think going up to 40 or 45 mins? Just a thought. That might be the trick. I seem to do occasional clearing of the throat and the occasional cough. Prior to the "30 minute" change I had the darn thing on 10 or 15 minutes. NOT a good idea if you want lower AHI numbers.

Thanks! I actually do know my CPAP Fairy all to well!
He's about 6'4", 280 lbs. He used to rattle the windows when he snored and would quit breathing throughout the night. The CPAP Fairy seems to follow the advice and knowledge from this forum to the letter!

It's all very good advice. Sometimes you gotta determine the difference between fact and opinion but we have to do that every day anyway. And sometimes the opinion is just as important as the fact because it's coming from people who have experience with said item.
I guess CPAP fairies come in all shapes and sizes. It sounds like your CPAP fairy needs to be on CPAP as well Or maybe they already are

Settling time
Rastaman-
In reponse to your question about increasing your settling time, I don't believe that this is an instance of "More is better." I have my Settling time set to the interval that it usually takes me to fall asleep. That way, I'm sure that my S8 isn't scoring artifacts while I'm "settling" into sleep. I also avoid increasing it on the chance that I'm gonna wake up in the night to go to the bathroom or something, and then have the S8 wait an unusually long time before it goes back to its job of monitoring my sleep and treating any SDB related events, even if I rapidly fell back asleep after a quick bathroom break.
So, if it were me, I'd set SETTLING to only as long as it takes you to settle into sleep (which is what I did!)
Just a thought.

My settleing time is as long as pulling the mask on, covering the vent hole and taking two breaths. I try not to lie down until I'm ready to sleep, if I watch TV, I'm on my back, and my nose plugs up. I wake up stuffed, and lay on my right side and in five minutes then I can breath again. Jim

Settling Time
Good idea. I'm not exactly sure how long it takes me to go to sleep now. It used to be less than 5 minutes back when I had the effects of sleep apnea. I would avoid going to sleep until I was absolutely exhausted on a nightly basis, often falling asleep in my computer chair or while watching a movie in the living room. It got to a point I couldn't make it through any film no matter how interesting before nodding off to sleep (and ofcourse embarassingly snore.)
But for now, I'm thinking about those quick bathroom breaks and 30 minutes are what I'm leaving it at for now. I can't imagine a mask itself changing my AHI numbers all that much so quite possibly my lower AHI is due to this 30 minutes of settling time.

advanced menu
Hi Just purchased ResMeds S8 Autoset Vantage system, working fine but I would like to be able to access the detailed menu. The only menu that comes up is the standard. If you could please email me at e.steinberg@sympatico.ca with the information I would greatly appreciate it.
This was my first night on cpap, my wife likes it because no snoring.

GoofyUT? Take it away!
You there GT? You explain it so much better than I do.
But I'll give you a hint match 8. You will not want to hold down the down and right arrows for a couple of seconds to access this menu It's pretty self explanatory beyond that. Left arrow is menu. Right arrow exits or backs out one menu at a time. Efficacy data is your results. Settings are changing masks, pressure settings ect.
