You more or less need two,,, to support excess hose, to keep the right length at the bed, I have more hose towards the machine,, and if I use only one the hose slides towards the machine, so I put a second one to hold the slack.

huh?
I'm a little confused I've been told that keeping the machine lower than the bed (and so it follows, the hose lower too except for what you need on top of the mattress to hook up to), reduces rain out. Why would you want your hose elevated while in use? When I'm done with it in the morning, I always shake out excess water and hang it from a nail in the wall (I have a felt string around it for this purpose) to dry out, but never have it elevated while in use....you got some splainin to do! Flower51, I don't use a heated humidifier, so rainout has never been an issue for me. The reason people like to have their hose far up over their heads is that having it hung up there in an elevated position keeps it from getting wrapped around their necks at night. I've always had problems with that (I turn or roll over several times a night), and I've found myself waking up several times a night to make sure I'm not being strangled by my hose. If there's no excess hose to worry about, it's not getting tangled around my neck.

From frustrated back to hopeful...
I've given up on the pesky Ultra Mirage FF mask for awhile. Just too leaky and noisy for me.
I went back to my DME provided Profile Gel Lite and decided to at least try taping my mouth. Having taped up, I think this might be a workable solution.
I did fine taping my mouth during my usual round of Saturday day-sleep sessions. Last night I taped but woke up this morning having ripped it off during the night.
The good news, though, is that I've felt relatively rested today. I've not napped all day and I'm not going to go to bed until 9:00. I'm hoping to keep the tape on all night, and I'm DEFINITELY hoping to really get some sleep. A work week of Mon-Fri night sleeping would be Nirvana, but I'll keep my goals set at a more realistic "one night at a time."
I'm still hoping for less dreaming. Such weird dreams, too. I've been reading up on REM Rebound, and I'm figuring that's what I'm dealing with.
I do have a question about REM Rebound: The research articles I've read about REM Rebound define it as the body's way of making up for lost sleep. I'm not clear, though: Is it making up for sleep lost during a previous section (or previous sections) of the current sleep cycle or is it making up for sleep lost on previous nights?

I just wanted to say that I am currently using a Comfort Lite, a Swift and an Aura and I just rotate them around. I'll be able to use the Swift, for example, for several days in a row, thinking it is just the greatest thing ever and then one night I won't be able to get it to seal, the whole thing is irritating the heck out of me and I'll frantically grab...oh, the Aura maybe. And I'll think...oh, this is HEAVEN. Which will last a day or two until THAT one drives me nuts and I'll grab the Comfort Lite in a panic. R-E-L-E-I-F!!! And so it goes. So it is good in my opinion to have a drawerful of nice masks, just in case....
And did you say you've been CPAP'ing about a month? It took me well over a month to get over my previous sleep deprivation. In fact, I may not be over it yet and it has been three months already for me. I still find myself sleeping a full 8 or 10 or even 12 hours a day when possible. But the huge difference is in how I feel during the awake hours. I'm just now am finding it possible to sleep a little less. Your body has been deprived of oxygen and rest for years probably, so 30 days of good sleep is probably not enough to get the balance back again.

Jan, what you described doing - several masks to rotate amongst when any one mask wears out its welcome - is great advice! I've even switched masks during the night when I've waked up to find that one just isn't staying sealed as well as it usually does.So it is good in my opinion to have a drawerful of nice masks, just in case....

Hi Allen - You gave me a tip in your note... I find that if I just lose 5 lbs (off a not hugely excessive amount) I sleep better, and vice versa. It shouldn't matter, but it seems to. You say you're not eating right, etc. and I know being zoned out makes it hard, but try to keep on track better and see if it helps. Also discuss your settings with whoever fitted you because they're really the people who can help best.
