Any interest in pre-made swift LT wicks for sale

Post by codorner » Wed Sep 02, 2009 7:01 pm

I have been using a CPAP machine since March of 2009. I use the Swift LT head gear with the nose pillows. I am forever grateful to "feeling better "for the post about the wick for rain-out, since I had terrible problems with that in the beginning. I have made my own wicks, that are machine washable and 100% cotton, except for the plastic cord used to provide some stability. I am wondering if there would be any interest out there for me to make and sell these. I am a stay at home mom with a background in clothing design so I enjoy making things. I would probably sell them in packs of 7, a weeks supply, and was thinking $35.00 plus shipping if there is any interest.

Codorner, this invention of "feeling better" is an item that I think does not need to be replaced over time with a new one. Ever. Or until it plum disintegrates. At the rate you suggest, the cost comes to $1820 per year. That's just not reasonable. I made one of these and never used it, once I discovered that putting the hose under the covers instead of over my head made the rainout completely disappear. Just my 2cents.

These are machine washable -- which means that they are reusable, presumably for many times before they need replacement. If they can be re-used 52 times before they need to be replaced, they will cost $35 per year.

That is correct they are reusable. I have washed mine many times. I just didn't like the idea of using the same one over and over again, so I made mine with a cotton cover that covers the cotton wick so I could just through it in the washing machine and sanitize them. I thought a set of 7 would be nice to have, you could just wash them once a week.

I'd be interested. I am a little confused about washing the cotton cover though - wouldn't you need to wash both the cover and the wick since the wick is what soaks up the moisture? Or maybe I am confused. . .

Thanks for coming up with these for those of us who would have a hard time making them on our own!

Wicks sound like a ridiculous "fix" to me. If you are getting rainout you should implement all the standard remedies before trying something like this. The standard remedies are:

- Use an insulated hose cover.

- Place the humidifier tank below the level of you head so rainout will run back into the humidifier tank.

-Quit using those overhead hangers for your hose. They are unnecessary.

- Turn the humidity setting down. You are breathing "unhumidified" air all day and surviving. You don't need so much more humidity at night.

Don't make it sound so difficult to new users.

I tried to post a photo, but couldn't figure out how to do it. Seemed like you had to have a photo sharing site to do it from. If you know how to post a photo please let me know and I would be happy to do that.

Just for the record, I tried all of the above, low humidity, covered the hose, didn't use a hanger etc. I was ready to give up and use another type of headgear when I read about someone who had made a wick. That was the solution for me, and I have been sleeping without drips ever since.

Here are some photos of the wicks. I have listed them on the CPAPAuction site. http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab33 ... 0_1213.jpg[/img]ImageImageImageImage[/img]

I have to disagree with this. I use the Hozer. I managed to forget it on my June trip, and ended up uncomfortable, and with incredible leaks because I kept rolling over on the hose, or the dogs walked on it, or something.

I was profoundly grateful to get back to it.

Now this I can agree with.

I've been using a cotton string wick in my Aura Headrest nasal mask for over a year....and it certainly hasn't been a "ridiculous fix" as far as I'm concerned. Before I added the wick, I often had rainout caused by exhaled breath condensation in the nose-piece.

Codorner had the same problem as I had.....and he solved it in the same way. What he's doing is spot-on correct.

The wick is not intended to solve the "hose internal condensation problem". Most of us solve that problem with hose covers, elevated hangars, low humidifier settings, and every other trick we can think up. But when the problem is "exhaled breath condensation", a wick is an elegant and simple "fix". It sops up the two or three big drops before they can go up our nose...and that makes all the difference.

Codorner's mask is different from mine......I can use a plain piece of cotton string....but he can't......because of the shape of his nose-piece.

I'm impressed with his solution....and I can highly recommend it to anyone who is using the mask it was designed for.

Really not intending to hijack here, but Rooster can you tell us your reasons for choosing this avatar persona?

I changed it to honor the day on September 9.
September 9, 2009 is a marquee day for the Beatles fans worldwide as it marked the release of the digitally enhanced and remastered catalog of the 1960s rock n roll band the Beatles, whose popularity doesn’t seem to wane a wee bit, on the contrary seems to be getting even more popular amongst the cell phone crazy generation just as it was during the 1960s.
This exclusive catalog could turn out to be one of the most coveted part of one’s music collection as all the classics including rock n roll anthems like “A Hard day’s Night” and “Within You Without You” are present in their digitally enhanced avatars. Who would not like to be a proud owner of such a collection! To listen to the “Fab four”, that too in stereo and digital quality sound, is indeed a great pleasure for any Beatles aficionado.
The Box-set of this remastered collection comes with a huge collection CDs and one DVD which contains 13 small documentaries. The media and the internet are abuzz with news of fans and music lovers going crazy over this new release. For those who cannot spend much at one go, there’s good news as the CDs would also be sold separately.
Besides this catalog, the newer generation of Beatles lovers would be happy to know that a video game, themed on the band has also been released simultaneously, something which they can easily identify with, being part of the digital era. The game has been named “The Beatles: Rock Band“.
I still remember rolling on the floor and screaming in front of our little black-and-white TV watching them on Ed Sullivan.

Got 'em on my IPOD now.
Oh yeah, I'll tell you something,
I think you'll understand.
When I'll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

Oh please, say to me
You'll let me be your man
And please, say to me
You'll let me hold your hand.
Now let me hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.

Yeah, you've got that something,
I think you'll understand.
When I'll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.

Yeh, you've got that something,
I think you'll understand.
When I'll feel that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hand your hole.
