I have rejoined the ranks of the CPAP-enabled
This afternoon, I picked up my brand new ResMed AirSense 10, with a Fisher & Paykel full face mask (I can't think of the name of it). Hopefully tomorrow, they'll have the ambien prescription that's supposed to help me tolerate it better than last time.
I have some trepidation, but I am cautiously optimistic.
Liam, so self-involved, he figured all y'all would need to know, or even care.

Re: I have rejoined the ranks of the CPAP-enabled
Hey, hope that it all goes well for you. Glad to see that you're trying again...there's lots of variables that you can use to tune your comfort level, including mask liners, earplugs, pads, and so on. The important thing is to continue to try like you're doing, you'll get used to it soon. Ambien was very helpful to me, as well as using earplugs, since I'm a light sleeper. Hope that they help you as well.

While your OSA may not put each of us directly in jeopardy, we still try to be supportive of those with even just a touch of common sense.
Try using it while watching tv, or, if the mask allows, reading a book. Or relax while using it while listening to music. It helps to train your brain that masking up is a GOOD thing, and not to freak out.

Re: I have rejoined the ranks of the CPAP-enabled
Actually, one thing that I've found helps me tremendously lately, which I may try with this, is a particular sound.
It's funny, many times people have suggested white noise machines or the ones that make the sounds of waves or rain or whatever, and those never did anything.
But two summers ago, I discovered that the sound of Katydids on a hot night (particularly outside my mother's house in North Carolina) was incredibly soothing to me. I found a track on You Tube of 10 hours of Katydids recorded in the Pisgah National Forest about 10 miles from Mom's house, and it was perfect. So maybe that'll help.
Liam, who didn't name his daughter Katie after the Katydids.

Re: I have rejoined the ranks of the CPAP-enabled
I remember the sounds of spring peepers, and crickets. Sweet little things.
Then there were all those hot summer nights filled with the whine and screech of locusts.
I much prefer the odd call of katydids in heat, but prefer human voices to put me to sleep.
Talk radio, soft laughter, nothing emotional. Like my parents talking when they thought I was asleep.

Welcome back, Liam. How long were you gone and, if you went off xpap for awhile, what was your experience with that?Liam1965 wrote:Actually, one thing that I've found helps me tremendously lately, which I may try with this, is a particular sound.

I sleep with white noise habitually and find it relaxing. But its effect has diminished with time (a few years now). So I just went looking for your sounds of insects. I found it and I like it: very outdoors, relaxing, escape feeling -- I can see why it's easy for you to doze off on it.
Here's the link if anybody else wants to check it out >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFECAQVPC70 You can save the link to your desktop and play it all night. Enjoy.
Thanks, Liam

I will ship a whole box of live ones once they start piping up near the end of June. I have words other than soothing for them.Liam1965 wrote:I discovered that the sound of Katydids on a hot night (particularly outside my mother's house in North Carolina) was incredibly soothing to me.

Night one.... did not go well. I am tired, demoralized, and had forgotten how CPAP usage seems to be a depression trigger for me.
I'll keep trying.

Re: I have rejoined the ranks of the CPAP-enabled
Liam, it might help if you grabbed Sleepyhead software and took a look at your therapy to see why things might not be optimal yet. Software is free. http://www.sleepfiles.com/SH2/?TestingVersions
You should also obtain a copy of the clinical setup manual for your machine. http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Let us know if you need any help setting things up... and you might want to check into that thing where you address Liam in the third person. I thought you knew him well enough to address him in the first person perfect.

Can you flesh this out a little? A more detailed description of your problems might give us a chance at offering advice rather than just sympathy!
Unless you just want to vent, and that is ok to.
