Zeo PC Viewer Installation Guide for Bedside Models

Post by Jay Aitchsee » Wed May 01, 2013 5:33 am

Edit 8.13.2013:
Zeo has scrubbed most their resources from the web. Find alternative sources here
: https://forum.quantifiedself.com/thread ... 73#pid3373 and updated installation instructions here: https://forum.quantifiedself.com/thread ... 57#pid3057

For a newer, windows based viewer see here: https://forum.quantifiedself.com/thread ... ep-monitor

With Zeo apparently out of business, owners of the Zeo Bedside Model may want to install this viewer which allows continued off-line access to sleep data. The viewer is rather rudimentary, but it does provide access to all the sleep data stored on the SD card. (Installing the viewer or decrypting the data card does not prevent normal use of the myZeo Sleep Coach website.) Uploading data to the myZeo Sleep Coach web-site, which then can be downloaded (export) in CSV format, will save any data collected prior to installation.

The viewer runs on JAVA. Before beginning, remove all previous versions of JAVA from your computer and download the most recent from JAVA.com. (Instructions are provided to disable JAVA in various browsers if security is a concern.)

Installing the viewer is a two part process: First, install a firmware update to decrypt the SD data card and second, install the Zeo Decoder Viewer.

Review the topics for an overview of the steps in the process, here: http://zeodecoderview.sourceforge.net/

Then register and download the firmware update 2.6.3O to decrypt the SD card, here: http://developers.myzeo.com/data-decoder-library/ (Data Decorder Firmware). See edits below if link is broken.

Follow these instructions to install the firmware and avoid mixing encrypted and decrypted data on the SD card:
  1. Upload to the website as usual to save the currently encrypted data.
  2. Download the firmware-v2.6.3O zip file and extract the zeo.img file.
  3. Put the Zeo SD card in the computer. Place the zeo.img file on the SD card in the Zeo folder with the ZeoSleep.dat file . Insert the Card into the Zeo.
  4. Update the firmware on the Zeo by following these steps:
    a. Press the settings button.
    b. Press the right button 7 times to show the software version.
    c. Press the down button to load the new firmware.
  5. Tell Zeo to erase the Zeo SD card (settings, then right 5 times, then down).
  6. Use the Zeo as usual
(the original firmware, 2.6.3, can be found here: http://developers.myzeo.com/firmware-v2.6.3.zip )

To install the viewer, go here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/zeodecoderview/files/ (SourceForge Downloads)
  1. Select (0.2a2), then select (ZeoDecoderViewer0.2a2Release.zip) and download it.
Do not use version 0.3a as it appears to be broken as of this writing.
You do not need (source_ZeoDecoderViewer0.2a2.zip), the other zip file.
  2. Copy the downloaded zip file to a working location of choice and extract the files
Once the viewer has been extracted, open the folder, ZeoDecoderViewer0.2a2, click on the ZeodecoderViewer icon and the viewer should start. Create a shortcut, if desired.

With the Zeo SD card in your PC after capturing new data, open the viewer, select File, select Load DAT File, navigate to your SD card and open the ZeoSleep data file, as if you were uploading to the site. This should load all the data on the card for viewing. Select the year, month, day of the desired data to view.

The links above appeared to be operational again on 5/09.
Check post # 6 at https://forum.quantifiedself.com/showthread.php?tid=654 as another possible source should the above links become inoperable.

Or here, http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8519 ... 3R-zeo.img to use firmware 2.6.3R which will work in place of 2.6.3O

It looks like these links still work.

I wonder if this isn't a time expedient thing. . .people might want to get this stuff as soon as possible just in case it goes away again.

Probably. Interested people should also archive the raw data library and 2.6.3R firmware. (That's needed for things like ZeoScope.)

the raw-data-library is already blocked. it says the form no longer accepts submissions, once you submit it.

The library is still available at SourceForge.

The firmware filename is "firmware-v2.6.3R.zip". I don't see it online anywhere.

I have been able to view nightly summary data on the console of my Bedside;
by pressing the Zeo button and using the right arrow key to see time in each stage, etc.
If it prompts you to delete, just hit the "home" key instead.
I think I'll just put mine away--I haven't used it since the weekend.
Maybe my son can use it for the smart alarm.
Since I am retiring in 36 days, why do I need an alarm clock?

As of today 5/08/2013, it looks like neither Zeo firmware decryption update, 2.6.3O or 2.6.3R is available. However the link to 2.6.3O was taken down and then put back up before, so it might pay to check back occasionally. I think either of the firmware updates would allow the use of the decoder viewer.

Check post # 6 at https://forum.quantifiedself.com/showthread.php?tid=654 as a possible source.

Edit: On 5/09, this links to both firmware updates were available: 2.6.3R at http://developers.myzeo.com/raw-data-library/ and 2.6.3O at http://developers.myzeo.com/data-decoder-library/

See previous post. The firmware 2.6.3R was available here, http://developers.myzeo.com/raw-data-library/, this morning.
The link to obtain 2.6.3O, http://developers.myzeo.com/data-decoder-library/ , was also working.

That's right, both 2.6.3O and 2.6.3R decrypt the ZEOSLEEP.DAT file. (More precisely, they decrypt all future entries in the ZEOSLEEP.DAT file, so unless you start from scratch, the some entries (the previous ones) will still be encrypted. This can confuse some programs.)

2.6.3R adds the ability to pull the real-time data off the serial port in back, needed for things like ZeoScope.

Glad to hear they're back online -- grab 'em while you can!

Looks like I'm late to the party. I haven't been using my Zeo for months and decided to use it today only to find out that the websight no longer works and the company went out of business. I have used all of the links in this thread none of them work.

If anyone from this thread has the 2.6.3R firmware files I would be EXTREMELY grateful if you could e-mail them to me at cubase0707@yahoo.com
Also, feel free to PM me.

Thanks in advance

The web site is back up - no worries. You should be able to get the firm ware through the site stated here on this thread, it also locked up for a bit, but I believe it is now available again.

I might seriously consider getting a Fitbit Flex, but it appears to be completely cloud-dependent.
Guess where they can shove that?

Yeah, I can't see why they just can't give us the program on a cd to do stuff with. This is really irritating.

I have been looking for a 2.6.3R firmware for a while and if anyone has it, please share. I will put it online to make it available for others, and will send you biggest thanks .
