Oh please. Everyone posting here chooses their behavior, they are not forced to act in any particular way.
Be careful. There are those here who will vilify YOU for making such a claim.

I don't doubt it and don't worry about it either!

I don't know if everyone saw my post earlier but calist was in the chat room earlier and listed his alter egos. Here they are: Kenton, Sleeptechuouls, Sleepyhead22 and AmyHarper. He also said that he will stop using those and will make new ones. Not sure if this was true but please be careful with who you side with. Just letting you know.

I have absolutely no problem with professionals coming on here whether they are "patients" or not. I have absolutely no problem with their offering professional advice if they want to step out on that limb, whether they are "patients" or not. Actually, more often what they are offering is their opinion. Which, of course, is colored by their experiences as professionals.

A "professional" may offer an opinion (or "advice") I disagree with, but I have absolutely no problem seeing them voice what they think on this forum. I welcome that.

I tend to discount what is said by anyone more quickly if I regard the way it's expressed as condescending or rude, but I still have no problem with the fact that anyone -- professional or not, "patient" or not -- expressed an opinion that might be very different from my own opinion, or offered advice that I was not going to follow.
jonquiljo wrote:Unfortunately we have had many people come on here lately and tell us what they thought from a professional perspective - whether it be sleep medicine, law,

"Unfortunately" ? I don't see that as being unfortunate at all. I like to see what professionals think. I might not agree with what they think. On the other hand, I might agree with what they think, yet not be inclined to apply it to myself.

Sorry but I disagree - We have no idea if a self-stated professional is really a professional or not. We know nothing of their credentials, or of their experience. All we know is that they say they are professionals. The fact is that everyone here is anonymous - so we have no idea as to who they really are. That is good IMO, as we protect ourselves on the Internet. But it does not help us know if the person speaking to us is a professional or not. We can't even tell if a single person is logging in under multiple ID's. Sorry, but I have seen people who have claimed to be physicians on the Internet be nothing of the sort - and in fact found to be illegal drug dealers. Boy, was that a shock!

Now I will be the first to admit that I can be rough around the edges sometimes - but putting aside the fact that you don't like that - do you really think we are doing ourselves or anyone else any good by taking so-called "professionals" at their word when they come here that they are indeed trained and credentialed? Would listen to anyone in a hospital or clinic as a professional just because they wear a while coat (with no ID or name tag)? Take Calist for example. Does anyone really know who he really was or what his credentials were? Of course not. We don't even know how many "disguises" he has donned and logged in as since he left. Finally, do you even know for certain that xj220c is a lawyer or went to law school? He may very well have - but that can't be proven here.

Take offense to me if you so wish. But my original intent in this thread was to try to say that I thought a lot of people here were tired of being told what to do by their physicians, insurers, and DMEs - and were looking for refuge in peers. In retrospect that is pretty obvious as many threads are about finding "unavailable" software, getting around a DME problem, or how to adjust a setting. Correct me if I'm wrong - but this is looking for information from peers - correct? The fact is that some people take someone's word for it when they say they are a professional online - and they treat that information as being different from someone's opinion who is not. That's pretty dangerous.

Before we keep on throwing stones at each other - let's just figure out who is real, who is just obnoxious (like me), and who is playing us for a fool - like Calist, SleepTechulous, Amy Harper, and how many others?

This explains why this AmyHarper called me out by name, calling me a troll. I was among a lot of people that called calist out -- why is he picking on me so much????

I guess if we get suspicious we need to check out when the account was created. If the date was recent and the person sounds "off" it might be another one. After finding out about these names I went to their posts and truly do seem to have Calist written all over them.

only guest posts show up with the also posted as list of names - if you post with a registered name it will only show that name you are posting using at the time

beware ppl who use popular old dial up ISPs like AOL and more will have a big long list by their guest posts - doesn't mean they are all the same person by any means but this was several recent join dates in this case

Maddie,

He picks on you so much because you let him 'get to you.' He is a cretin. He is here to evoke a reaction. When you react, you feed his need. Strong reactions, especially, are what he seeks. You provided that. You, and others.
