Is anyone really who they say/pretend to be??

I admit it. I'm really a dog.

Part of my issue with the alter identities is this... Even though I've never laid eyes on you, I still have come to feel that I know you and have a relationship with you. Here, even more than in real life, it is easy to present yourself the way you want others to see you. The implicit understanding is that the image you project is not based on deception. My expectation is that, while someone may put their best foot forward, they don't do so under one identity, reaping the benefits of my favorable regard, and simultaneously are cruel to people under some other identity that I don't associate with them. That feels to me like being duped and deceived.

Hi Shar
and here's me trying to cut down on my posts so I don't get into so much trouble. But at least I did not get into trouble with you, I don't think ?
I remember a song I heard once by Tsai Chin back in 1962, the words went something like this -
Am I a little girl dreaming I am a butterfly,
or am I a butterfly dreaming I am a little girl
Maybe the world of JNK is the only one that works for us all, but we would never meet, as we all have different dreams and fantasies.
Still, it's an agreeable idea.

If only I did not have a body to bring me back to reality.
cheers

It's been pointed out that most of us are anonymous anyway, so I would say it is VERY cowardly not to even be willing to have your primary anonymous identity held accountable for the things you say. My very simple perspective is: either don't say it, or say it and take the fall for saying it.-SWS wrote: Lately we have been focusing on regular members who take out additional user accounts to take snide swipes at other members. I mistakenly thought that was cowardly at first. However, reading through the recent posts in this thread I have learned:
1) It’s not really cowardly to reserve a second identity for harsh/antagonistic posts

I apologize to the entire board for my betrayal of the entire community's trust and my failing to remain who I never said I was. I leave my fate in DoriC's hands.

I was very purposely staying out of this discussion, but I so strongly agree with the above sentiments that I felt the need to say it.ozij wrote:Thank very much SU for putting this into words. I've come to like and respect an awful lot of people here. I've also come to really dislike a few as well. To find out that some of the people that I had formed an opinion about may actually be posting on several names, some with totally different personalities, leaves me feeling kind of cold and empty.
While I'm as open to having a little fun as the next person, I don't come to a forum like this to play games.
I guess it's naive to expect the same from others, but I post under one name and one name only. I have no desire to be someone other than who I am. You can like me or not, but it's based on truth and honesty rather than deception.

Definitely ditto! And only one identity for me, too. You wouldn't want more than one...trust me!Madalot wrote:I was very purposely staying out of this discussion, but I so strongly agree with the above sentiments that I felt the need to say it.ozij wrote:Thank very much SU for putting this into words.
