RG has it right. In as I have never seen a mask that has a strap on the very top of the head but many have one on the top that wraps around and the bottom that wraps around, I was using the term top. I think I needs to try some kind of strap in the area RG advises.

I really contorted the mask around last night and had a better night but still the pillow would move it and break the seal. I think a lower strap would be a cure as RG suggests.

Good idea, Wader. Heck, hang tinsel from our ears, too! Anyone got battery operated teeny tiny lights?

Have you all noticed that RnR is getting closer and closer to donning pantyhose? Desperation will do that to ya!

Maybe a headband. Maybe a strap off another mask. Maybe some other substance I concoct.....but not panty hose.

R&R,

Like RG has said, it doesn't have to be pantyhose, but any piece of material that you can tie in the back. Or even make a homemade strap that has a velcro closure on it so you don't feel funny with a tie in the back. Whatever floats your boat, as long as it keeps the pillows in place when you sleep. The pantyhose, I have to say, though, works like a charm and is so lightweight and comfortable. And, honestly, R&R, use a pair of black ones and once you cut a leg off, it just looks like a black piece of material anyway, not a pantyhose leg. Cut the toe off, too!!! You can make it look totally disguised. Maybe if you just put an elastic headband around the top location as shown in RG's illustrations, it would keep the whole thing from moving. BUT, before you do this, try sliding the lockbox forward a bit more onto the forehead and then bend the wire so that it's at more of an angle with the pillows. That might help.

What I have found works with the Aura and the Swift to keep those back straps from moving upward won't help you, but I'll post it for the women and men with long-ish hair in the back. I make a little makeshift bun with no bobbypins or anything, just twist it into a bun, and put the strap over it. Makes it harder to move.

What about putting a piece of foam in the back of your head under that strap, soft enough to lean on if you sleep on your back and perhaps it would be enough to not let the strap ride up?

When you get it right, you will be glad you took the time because, IMHO, there is nothing better that the Aura for a comfortable night's sleep (when you're forced to wear a mask/interface, that is!).

I recieved my Aura on Sunday - and what with postage and taxes, payed something like $250 for it .

I have just had a wonderful, leakless nap with it, after two very very leaky nights - especially on my side. And I'll try to explain how I did it

Basicall, there are two places where you can control the adjustment, on what Aeiomed call the adjustment bar.

Look at the top of the Headgear. Those two cream colored curved pieces of plastic tracks have slots in them - and they can move back and forth.

That wasn't enough.
Fiddled (a bit) with the metal supports - nothing doing.
I tried a panty hose quivalent (thin silk neckerchief) - not enough.

Looked at the thing in frustration, and noticed that the front, just where you connect the nasal seal also has slots (page 4 of the instruction booklet, the "seal connector"). And that seal connector- black in the photo - is transparent in real life.

Image

It wouldn't budge. But when you look at it carefully, you see this little V shaped metal piece wedged into the slot.

Which convinced me that though it wouldn't budge at first - it should.
So, I disconnected the nasal seal. Made sure the hose coming from the top had some slack, and pulled. Carefully, to make sure nothing broke, but with conviction.

And it moved. So after pulling it down, I pushed it up, all the way to where it is breaked by two small plastic bumps.

Eureka!
With the nasal seal in the right relationship to the the lockbox, it was like magic.
One Aura, no extra straps, one hour's nap, no leaks. None, on either side.

I think that out of the box the Aura comes with the top pushed all the way in (R&R, see if pulling it out won't help you with the slipping strap problem) and the front somewhere it the middle, as pictured above. That placement was just too long for my face.

By the way, there was no way I could have done this pushing and pulling of the seal connector with the mask on my face - but it worked when I held it firmly in my hands.

I'll let you know tomorrow how the night went.

I don't remember anyone mentioning these possible adjustment points.

As for the inhale woosh - it's different from the Breeze's - but I don't feel it's noticeably "louder". I liked Lori's idea of thinking of the surf - there is something surflike about the sound.
O.

Ozij,

Aren't you the quiet one...I had no idea you even had one on order. To say I'm thrilled you got it working like you did is an understatement. I am also thrilled that you tried it. I think you are going to feel like I do, that after using so many other different interfaces, you have finally found "the one."

I know in my heart that you will have endless nights like your nap was today now that you found the right adjustment. Very glad you made the correct observation on how to fix the exact spot that made it so much more effective for you.

Please write tomorrow when you have a moment to tell everyone how your first night with the right adjustment went. I can read the words now in my head, but it will be great hearing it from you. I know I said it already, but I am so happy for you!!!

Yep. Wanna borrow them?

Off topic: for Christmas my wife decorated one of our Miatas. She wrapped the trunk lid with metallic plastic and ribbon and a big bow to look like a giant package. The roll bar (aftermarket addition) was wrapped with garland and had satin balls hanging from that. The hood, windshield, and trunk were outlined with strings of Christmas lights and they also wrapped with the garland around the rollbar. We had an invertor to run all the lights.

We were the best dressed Miata in the club's Christmas light drive! .
