What will happen if I didn’t use Cpap for 2 weeks

Post by Amany55 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 2:41 pm

Hello,
I am planing to travel for two weeks trip to Saudia. I am afraid that my cpap could be mishandled during security check. Women should leave their stuff to pass through the screening security check and go inside a room to be checked personally. Last time I went there, I came out that room to find my laptop carrying bag and my purse on the floor away from the screening.
I just got my machine two months ago while I was visiting USA. I thought of getting the airmini to have with me during this trip and others. However, cpap.com does not ship the Resmed products outside USA. Therefore, I am considering not to take the cpap during this trip. My initial diagnostic AHI was 25. Now, it is less than 1 in most of the days.
What will happen if I stopped using the machine for those 2 weeks?

Life-threatening for some. No big deal for others. Just depends. Your docs should know your complete medical history and all comorbidities. We don't.

I certainly would not enjoy getting lousy sleep for two weeks, either way.

Probably, not a whole lot other than feeling like you did before starting treatment. How long did you have sleep apnea before you started treatment. When I had back surgery two years, I went two weeks without using my machine because the medication I was on made me so nauseous I could not stand to have the mask on my face.

Five pounds too much it carry, I feel your pain I can't carry anything any more, but it doesn't matter if I stay home, and I do. If you find me by the side of the road dead, I'll be setting my truck, smiling! It won't be because I didn't use my XPAP for some lame excuse. Jim

Just don't set it on the fuel line in the helicopter!

If you have time, how about buying a backup or maybe a travel APAP unit?

I would try to buy a used machine for cheap and use it as a backup for trips like this. I fully understand not wanting to risk losing your cpap long term during a short term trip.

You could always use a parcel forwarding service if you decide to buy from cpap.com. https://tech-vise.com/best-parcel-forwa ... -shoppers/

My apnea is severe. I traveled two days without my machine. I will never do that again.
I would buy a basic CPAP to be used for travel and as a backup. Carry it on the plane instead of checking it.
Maybe you could rent a machine in Saudi Arabia.

After the first couple of weeks, I was so spoiled by my cpap, I could not sleep without it.
Of course, I had not been sleeping much/well for a while before starting cpap.

Thank you all for your kind advice
I was thinking of getting the airmini as a travel and backup machine. However, cpap.comdoes not ship Resmed products outside US.
From your advice, I can conclude two options
Using the forward service or buy another brand travel cpap (Z1 or transcend) which both were rated less and noisier
I appreciate your help very much

what about a used one? since its a medical I can see why manufacturers don't ship outside a country.

Have you tried checking with Second Wind for used machines?

This is all based upon your current compliance. If you are use a cpap 100% of the time then skipping two weeks is crazy. If you use it 50% of the time then probably it is not a big deal. But I suggest you take the cpap. I wouldnt even buy a second machine or take a used one. I suggest you dont overthink the situation. Just take it and enjoy.
