Hi folks. I just wanted to relate my experience with my Remstar Plus. I know this sounds like I'm a paid shill, but no, just little old me.
I got my Remstar Plus machine back when I was first diagnosed in 2001. I've had it ever since, using it most nights (I kept a spare at a GF's house for some years). This machine has traveled all over with me, frequently in the luggage of my motorcycle. A few years back, I took a particularly rough fall on the bike (don't worry, I was fine, but the bike got banged up). After that, the Remstar Plus rattled when I turned it over or shook it, but still ran.
Tonight I finally gave in to curiosity and opened it up. I found what appears to be a fairly large electrolytic capacitor (10mm in diameter x 20mm long) broken off the circuit board. I found where it used to be soldered on. Breaking something like those leads would take a tremendous impact, and in fact I could see that other components were bent over.
But even without that capacitor, the machine continues to run just fine. Amazing. This thing is going to outlive me.
I've heard that Respironics is no longer making this model. It's a shame, because I'm hard pressed to imagine how they could improve on it.

But, seriously... they improved it (some would say) by making it about 1/5th the size.

That series of Remstars we fondly have renamed as "Tank", for the same reason, The bad thing yours, the Plus doesn't collect full data, making it a deal breaker. I have three Two Pro CPAP's and a APAP model, still using the first Pro from 2005, APAP is new, only break-in hours, other Pro CPAP bought low hour used, Lifetime supply, I wouldn't trade any of them for the new ones they make now. They will beat mine to the landfill.
BTW: that cap you soldered back does little to run the machine, if a filter to smooth the electric, as long as it doesn't short out something else. Jim
