New Again
Hello, I'm not a new cpap user but I am new to this site. Please bear with me because I may as well be new to cpap. I got my machine in late 2010 after having a sleep study. I believe my ahi was 45 apneas and was obstructive sleep apnea. I used the machine for about two years and then stopped. Too many reasons (excuses) why.
I recently had a home sleep study and my doctor said I have moderate apnea, 17 events. I have lost weight and she thinks it may be moderate now due to weight loss.
I am ready to start again and seriously this time. I pulled the machine out and it seems to be working. I'm very lucky because Medicare seems to be so different now. I put a new heated hose on and my doctor gave me a Swift FX mask. That's fine because I remember that is what I used back in 2010. My doctor set my machine to 7/14. I don't remember what it was before.
I have a bad cold so I have had time to read here. I have learned things from the experience of others and I hope to make it work this time. I haven't used sleepyhead yet. Right now it seems complicated and trying to sleep with this mask is all I can deal with right now. I will probably have questions and I hope that will be ok. Thank you.

I have a Resmed Vpap Auto. That's what it says on the top of the machine.

Do you have to use sleepyhead to be on this site? I see that so many people do.

You don't have to use sleepyhead, but it is highly recommended. If you start having problems, sleepyhead will enable people to help you. Sleepyhead gives you much more information than you can get from the machine.

Re: New Again
I have not used Sleepyhead since early in 2013, when my S9 Autoset started acting up
and messing up my data. My Windows laptop has since died, so I am unable to
use the program since. I am not expecting an intervention--yet.

Re: New Again
You don't have to use sleepyhead, but it will help. It is probably the S9 and has a sd card in the back. Sleepyhead is an easy program to use, sons daughters or grand-kids can help set it up. if you find it hard. There is also a lot of help here and will walk you through it.MrsFlowers wrote:Do you have to use sleepyhead to be on this site? I see that so many people do.
When are you going back to the doctor? what is the AHI reading on your machine? You can lower or raise the min/epap pressure and max.ipap pressure by 1cm, both together at a time and see the results. That is partly how they do it in labs. You really need the full data, but the doctor can read your card and help there.

I believe ajack is saying that I can lower or raise the pressure myself and don't have to wait for a doctor or anyone else to do it.
Thank you everyone. I appreciate the responses.

Re: New Again
depending on your AHI. I would keep the same difference between min and max pressure, but I would raise or lower the two, depending on the AHI count. It's obviously not as good as using sleepyhead. For one, it won't split oa from ca, but it may well be enough to get in range. If Flowers can't use sleepyhead and the next appointment is a long ways off.
If your AHI is high and you want to self adjust, the forum can help.
