If I wish to reply to a post and quote only a portion of someone's reply how can that be done?

you click on the Quote button :

then edit the original text of the OP posting

Or do like I do which is open a reply to box...then highlight the portion you wish to respond to and then click on the quote button and you get this

Those of you that didn't know about the snippet trick that I use...remember I am a lazy sot and for me the way I do it is less work and I am all about less work.

The only down side is that I am limited in which posts I can grab a snippet from if there are very many posts in a thread.
Like if the thread is 3 pages long I can only see the last 15 posts when I do the scrolling thing after I have the "reply to box" in front of me for composing and snipping. It's very rare that this ends up being a problem for me though.

And ya gotta do it just before you post your comment the first time. If you try to edit your comment after hitting submit, then the other posts are no longer available below the box anymore for doing that selective quote trick.
