Re: Changes To CPAPtalk Operating and Moderation Practices
. . .which is not to say, if I may add, that Canadians do not still observe the behaviour, even if continuing to mind one's own business. If the person behaving badly seems to be in real distress or ready to harm self or others, then likely one or more observers will intervene in some way to offer aid or protection. We just tend not to rush into something if there's no clear immediate danger, thus allowing the situation/person an opportunity to resolve/restrain itself.Arlene1963 wrote:I didn't respond to X.
This is very Canadian.
I didn't grow up in Canada but have learned to appreciate this characteristic. We often "pretend" that very bizarre behaviour is simply not happening, and sometimes when it does actually get acknowledged, we blame it on what the govt did or didn't do ... or at least the local municipality.
I use public transit very often, and if x had been on the bus I strongly suspect that I would have just looked out the window.

O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,

Enshaded in forgetfulness divine

I don’t. If he’s got mental issues then he needs to deal with them. You can blame upbringing, trauma, Aspergers or whatever only for so long, and at some point you have to accept responsibility for who you are and deal with it. None of us are perfect, few of us are even normal, how ever you define that.Pugsy wrote:I actually have some very mixed feelings about him personally...
He was an extremely negative force on here, and did damage. You can’t tell me that we should have just sat here and let him carry on. If someone has mental issues and starts something physical instead of verbal, he would be restrained. Why should we tolerate his abuse just because it didn’t involve a physical element? I’d have booted him out within a week of him starting his crap if it was up to me.
His only redeeming quality was the entertainment value.

CPAPtalk's mission is to help people with CPAP issues - peer to peer.
CPAPtalk must be above all things a welcoming, supportive and helpful place for new CPAP users. Henceforth CPAPtalk will adopt of policy of chasing off the flagrant, profane, repeat offender, intolerable trolls. Regular one time trolls and comments that give offense but are made as part of an attempt at reasoned discourse remain welcome.
Here are permanent changes we're making:
1. We are disabling Guest Posts.
2. @xxyzx, you have exhausted propriety, ignored warnings and made our community less welcoming. You have not supported our mission. You are banned from CPAPtalk.
Here are changes we'll make and see how they go:
1. All new CPAPtalk registrations must be validated by email before becoming active.
2. We are appointing moderators. Pugsy will be the first. Be aware we'll change moderators out from time to time, not because of a job poorly done but to share load and prevent fiefdoms. Moderators are to enforce the user agreement with as light a touch and as much latitude as reasonable.

BRAVO! Another thing to be thankful for. Perhaps now we can get down to helping with CPAP issues.
Old man, new machine. Better sleep![b]

Re: Changes To CPAPtalk Operating and Moderation Practices
This was surely a difficult thing to do, but considering the incessant rants and BS postings, it was past time to block alphabet man. All that gibberish really detracted from the mission of this site, not to mention stirring people's emotions. Thank you for helping to get things back on track with the true intent of this site....helping people.

Thanks! I've gotten very useful info here, but have stayed away completely for 7-8 months because some seemed highly offended that I didn't ask the questions that they wanted to hear or answer. Told me such things as STFU.

Re: Changes To CPAPtalk Operating and Moderation Practices
Finally! Thank you, Johnny G. and team. Hooray for Pugsy!
I despaired of this site ever being what it was. I quit referring other hose heads here due to the utter crap that seemed to cover just about every post. I pretty much quit coming here myself except to check monthly to see if ol' end-of-alphabet-soup was still spewing crap, inaccuracies, and misinformation.
While I know that moderation of message boards is not ideal, the fact is that some people are just nasty and have no decency. You can't let them destroy something in the name of fairness because they have none.
I wouldn't be a successful hose head myself if it weren't for this message board.
Thanks again for making the needed changes.
