Need urgent help: ResMed fried on 240v

Post by FlyingMoose » Tue Apr 18, 2017 3:33 pm

My dad I (both using CPAP, same machine) arrived in the Philippines (240v country) and a few seconds after starting his machine dies. It seems to be the power supply (no green light). We do have a spare but won't be able to get another easily if another one dies. For this reason, spent the first night without CPAP and both feel lousy.

Would we be better off converting the 240v to 120v, or getting a power conditioner to give it nice clean 240v?

Note that the power supply spec label says 100-240v. I really expected better from a supposedly medical-grade power supply. Has anyone else had a ResMed power supply croak?

My AirCurve 10 died when I was on vacation. I was in Missouri at the time, and ended up going three nights without my machine. As soon as I got back, my DME checked out the machine and said the machine was bad, not the power supply. They swapped it out for me on the spot. As with any electronic equipment, sometimes things just fail without warning.

I've never had the slightest problem so far with either of my S9s on 240 volts anywhere worldwide. How old was the power supply?

Can you have an electrician check the circuit you plugged in to?

Does that mean one machine or same make & model?

And you know the wall plug had 240v a/c coming out of it, How? Because they said so, that's a leap of faith! Jim

Yes we each have one plus we have 1 spare. I am going to try to find a hardware store and buy a meter.

I bought a voltage regulator/converter thing from the hardware store, I'll be running the CPAPs on 110v and maybe I'll hack open the dead power supply and see if I can figure out what went wrrong. Also verified that the outlet is 220v.

I have doubts you could see much if you opened it up. The weight and resonance of the case indicates to me that they likely potted the electronics in epoxy. I have a solar powered camp and use a lot of these wall warts to power things. Busted open dozens to modify them and these Resmed feel different. I bought a spare one to bust open and decided against it. The barrel connector cable is still a valuable item as a HP type cable will not work in a Autoset 10.
Seeing and believing are often both wrong. FOW

The connector seems to have 3 wires instead of 2, do you know what the extra one is?

One machine, with a Y-valve.
