F&P Brevida

Post by TonyG » Sat Jan 14, 2017 12:00 pm

I have posted this in another thread which was asking if anyone had found a mask better then the P10. I thought I would start a new thread as well since that one doesn't refer to this specific mask. If Admin would like to move this to a more appropriate place please do so.

F&P Brevida
I am a staunch P10 user but like a lot of others I take issue with the headgear. I use a M pillow in the P10. I was afforded an opportunity to trial a Brevida the last few days and I thought I would post my thoughts on it. Unfortunately the only pillow available was the XS-S one and I am pretty certain i would be better served with the M-L one. Regardless I took it based on the fact I can use the P10 with all 3 pillow sizes with similar results. Here are my first impressions:

- the overall weight is only slightly heavier then the P10. I really don't notice it.
- the actual mask is made of silicon rather then the hard plastic in the P10 and is extremely soft. It actually wraps around and over the tip of your nose making for a great seal.
- the pillows themselves are constructed a bit different from the P10 but are much thinner and way softer then the P10. When positioned properly in your nose they are hardly noticeable. Very comfortable. I sleep on my side and may turn from side to side occasionally but the pillows stay firmly in place.
- the headgear is adjustable and will take most people a bit of time to properly adjust but once you get it right it will be very comfortable. I have to say I prefer it to the P10 although you may find yourself fiddling with it constantly because you can. I don't hate the P10 headgear but one size very seldom fits all and I just find the Brevida much more comfortable. You would be amazed at how loose you can keep this mask and still provide leak free therapy. For the very vane I will say that the headgear leaves no strap marks on my face ( touch wood on that). It was a pleasant surprise but I had similar results with the Simplus from F&P.
- One thing you keep reading about here is the problems people perceive to have with the P10 diffuser. Personally I don't have that problem but for those that do you will love the Brevida in that regard. I am sure many will say that it is not exhausting your breathed air but that is hogwash. The Brevida has a removable/washable filter that covers the diffuser holes on the mask. All you have to do is take the cover off and you will feel the air movement. With the filter on you can hardly notice anything at all, just like the P10. Deadly quiet. The mask can be used with the filter either on or off if you choose and prefer the feel of the moving air. This technology is the same used on F&P Eson2.
- The short hose is a bit shorter on the Brevida then the P10 and I prefer the P10 in that regard. The Brevida swivels 360 degrees but I actually prefer the fixed. I have only used it a few nights so still playing with that when it comes to turning from one side to the other.

I don't know if I missed anything but if you have questions send me a PM and I will edit my thoughts here. I will say I think this mask is every bit as quiet or quieter then the P10 which says a lot. I am a big fan of F&P products and until I tried the P10 I had used nothing else. Both would be considered 5 star with me. Hopefully I can get my hands on the M-L pillows to see if that improves on an already great fit and comfort.

Wouldn't this review be one to post on the product pg of Cpap.com vs the forum - or are you looking for more answers?

If you read the post you would see I asked the Admin to move it if they wanted. I didn't know where else to post it and quite frankly don't know why you have to take issue with it being posted here but again from watching your replies in many other threads I am not surprised.

Sorry Tony, but not especially, considering what you said. I asked if you had other questions, did not otherwise insult you. The note looked to me like a standard review of a machine/mask so if I missed a little point in the lengthy para, sorry.

I, personally, am grateful to see the review posted here. Of course it can be posted on cpap.com but I don't see the problem with posting it here. I appreciated seeing the review here while I am perusing all the various current threads.

Perhaps this may be true if CPAP.COM could sell the mask. However, the mask has not been released in the US yet. When it does become available, I feel certain our host will carry it. Until then, it seems appropriate that those who can get the Brevida post their feelings about the mask where they feel it will reach the appropriate audience.

I had posted on the other discussion that was about pillow masks other than the ResMed p10. It seemed like quite a few people were interested in hearing about the Brevida mask and awaiting its availability in the US. I ordered the mask from Canada and have used it for about a week now. Since this discussion is more current, I'll add my review to this one

I agree that the mask is, although larger in total size than the p10, very light and very soft and flexible. I am using the xs/s size pillow ( my mask was shipped with both the xs/s and the m/l pillows). At first use I had a problem of over tightening the mask ( although the strap is adjustable, you can't adjust the splits independently). I was using the straps like I do with the p10 - both together low on the back of my head. Didn't work.. after giving it some thought, I decided to try having the upper strap section over the very top of my head and leaving the bottom section down near my neck. Next I loosened the straps so that the mask was very loose, more than the P10. To my surprise the straps stayed in place and the mask stayed in place with no leaks, even with side sleeping, even with the mask so loose! I've been using the mask for a week now with continued success and no soreness anywhere.

So, when CPAP.com is able to carry the Brevida, I think it would be worth trying if you need/want to try an alternative to your present mask.

Tony G... thank you very much for posting your thoughts about the Brevida. I've been researching and trying to find out as much as I can about this mask. Looking forward to it coming to the US and ordering it.

BTW... Pugsy, as well as others, have started threads which review the newest masks out there. This was exactly the right place to do that. Thank you again!

The only dealer I contacted (CPAPSupply.ca) said F&P precludes them from selling or shipping outside of Canada. Who did you order from and did they ship to NH?

I ordered the Brevida mask from the link posted by another :
https://www.cpapmachines.ca/collections/cpap-masks

They didn't require a prescription and shipped quickly to my address in NH. Took about a week.

Don't panic by the price - remember the $Canadian is worth $.75 USA.

.

A WORD OF CAUTION -- This morning I clicked on the link that Jagzoo provided above and got a virus on my computer! *Of course this was not intentionally done by J.* I got rid of the nasty virus but wanted to post this as a FYI.

I went to that link the other day and didn't seem to pick up any nasties.
And just now went to the website again without seeing any nasties.
cpap supply websites aren't normally targeted by people pushing viruses that will latch on to a computer just by visiting the website. Most of the time a person has to download something to pick up a nasty.
Now porn sites....that's a different story.

TonyG,

Thanks for the review, I'd been thinking of ordering the Brevida and decided to go for it based on your post. I received it today, and am looking forward to trying it tonight.

A M-L pillow was attached to the mask. It's too big for me, and I will be using the XS-S one that was included.

You mention in your post that you only have the smaller one, but think the bigger one would suit you better. I have no use for it, so it is yours for the taking should you wish.

If you're interested, send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll mail pop it in the mail for you.
