Trapped air sensation
I've been using CPAP for about 4 weeks, and I experience what feels like "trapped" air in my throat/wind pipe/esophagus, particularly when I lie on my side. I voluntarily burp to expell it. I also wonder if I am swallowing air sometimes. Does anyone else experience this sensation, and should this be a concern?
Sounds like you are being "overfilled" as some have said. Could it be your pressure is too high? I say this because you mention it being worse when on your side.
Are you using an auto PAP or straight presure setting ?
Do you have flatulance and pain ? Feel like the Michelin Man ?
An auto unit may be the answer. Many have had restfull sleep when switching to an auto .

I'm on level 11 of continuous CPAP. The tech/therapist said that level was not too high. The trapped air sensation is not painful, just distracting. Not sure about the "Michelin Man" feeling. Perhaps some bloating. In any event, I'd like to know if this is dangerous or simply a nuisance.
Yes I agree Chris,
Why they give straight pressure I don't know. Seems like a lot of agony to impose on a person to save a few bucks. Especially a new cpaper. We want them to feel confident with their treatment. Comfortable. Rested.
Not like they were just sent to Navy Seal training having to hold their breath and swim to the bottom to retrieeve their scuba gear AND put it on in one breath. Torture.
Autos should be the rule not the exception. If it doesn't work for some reason it could always be switched to run in plain cpap mode.
Good luck with your new toy.

Re: Trapped air sensation
I do not get the trapped air sensation. I am on autopap 420E, today is start of 4th wk. I feel a bit better, my problem is falling asleep, but that is another whole issue that hasn't changed since Before apap. My range is set for 5-14. If I ever got to 14 my brains what's left of them would probably blow out with my sinuses.
My husband and his trusty flashlight keeps a check on me, during night, and wrote down my range last night. This was also using ambien, so I was in a deep sleep and slept well a total of 9 hours. (bad prior few nights--so I know my system played catch up for the length of time asleep).
Anyway, went to bed 11:30, was a 5.0, at 2:30 AM was at 6.5, at 3:30 was back to 5.5, at 5 am (must've gone deep) was uo to 8.5, and at 7 am, back down to 7.0.
When I woke up I was at 5.0...........so point is, my system never needed any real high killer numbers.
Other thing is, are you comfortable with that pressure, if not, can you get dr. to write a scrip for auto, or at least get the RT to turn down your pressure some? or do you know how to do it yourself? If you post your model/mftr. name of your unit on here, someone can walk you thru the numbers.

Trapped air
I get the trapped air thing too. It wakes me up, which is just another
thing which wakes me up all night. Sometimes I swallow air all
night and fill my stomach and then the intestines. I guess this is
what they call "airing out your innards"
