First night on Auto CPAP

Post by greenham » Wed Jan 10, 2007 8:25 pm

Well, not an overwhelming success, but a start. My Sleep study showed sever OSA w/ a needed pressure of 9. I wasn't able to complete the study due to extreme mask anxiety, and the feeling of suffocation. You guys gave me some great advice to start slowly and get used to the gear. I bought the M series Auto w/ the humidifier and card reader.

Well last night I was able to wear the whole rig for 1 1/2 hrs. I felt myself getting to the moment right before sleep, and I would wake up again. I think I finally fell asleep for a few min.

I did see a great piece of advice that said in effect. "using a CPAP machine is an acquired skill, that takes time to master"

Anyway. Thanks for the support, going for 2hrs tonight.

Whatever it takes to make it work.

Best wishes,

Good for you. It sounds like you've read a few posts here. Just knowing that you're not the only one who has trouble going to sleep with all this gear on your face is encouraging. Hang in there, it will get better.

I'd go through and double check/adjust the default settings,

1. Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the power
on the back, wait 2 beeps, release buttons.
2. Press the + key. <- -> buttons move to next field, -/+ keys decrement/increment
3. Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode=Auto (CPAP/Auto)

-Auto:Max=10 (default=20.0cm)

-Auto:Min=6 (default=4.0cm)

-CFlex Setting=2 (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-AutoRamp Time=30 (options are 05 to 45 min)

-AutoRamp Pressure=5.0cm (4cm->AutoMin)

-Mask Alert Feature=ON (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature=Off (On/off)

-Split Night Time = Off (off, 120, 180, 240)

-Show AHI/Leak Feature=ON (On/Off)

Press On/Off button to exit.

It all depends on how you are tolerating the cpap pressure, if you are having difficulty falling asleep, then this is what I suggest:

1. When you start therapy, put on the mask
2. Press the On/Off button, pressure will start at 6.0cm.
3. Press the Ramp button, pressure will drop to 5.0cm* for 30 minutes where
it will be at 6.0cm and start autopap therapy.

*if 5cm pressure is too low you can increase the AutoRamp pressure above to 6cm, then the machine will just delay any pressure increases for 30-minutes, if you are still not asleep in 30-minutes press the Ramp button again, it will reset the timer for another 30 minutes.
