correct pressure suctions mouth closed?
The tech at my sleep clinic who said she has 18 years experience claims if you have the correct pressure it will keep your mouth closed? Is that true?

Maybe with the Bernoulli principle??? that's got to be the strangest thing I've ever heard. Especially if one's using a nasal mask. Higher pressure in the respiratory tract than outside the body would make air want to go out via whatever pathway it can find.
If any veteren PAPpers have input on this I'll be interested in hearing...

And, I've got some ocean front property in Wyoming.....wanna buy that, too?
18 years experience in WHAT?
Please don't take me wrong. I'm not making fun of your question......just poking a little humor at the tech at your sleep clinic that made that claim.
In other words, it doesn't sound logical to me. Lots of us are just prone to let out mouths drop open during the night regardless of the pressure.
I also assume the tech was talking about nasal masks, too.
That's one reason I wear a full face mask.....I know mine would probably be coming open during the night.
Best wishes,
Den

Sounds totally illogical to me. I'm at a pressure of 15 and, believe me, my tongue doesn't stay on the roof of my mouth!!!!!!

I think your tech has taken a kernel of information and (probably unintentionally) totally misconstrued the truth behind it.
There are those that mouth breathe solely because they aren't getting enough air with the pressure they've been RXed, and there are those that mouth breathe for other reasons (some who are just predisposed to it).
The people in this first category are rarer, and, once their pressure is changed and they can breathe adequately through their nose, will stop mouth breathing. I was lucky, and turned out to be one of those people.
Most mouthbreathers aren't that lucky.
I personally don't think "suction" has anything to do with it. But that's just my "layperson's" opinion.

That is an interesting theory. What medical study did she site? The tech at my sleep clinic who said she has 18 years experience claims if you have the correct pressure it will keep your mouth closed? Is that true?

that's it! that's it! skied down every one of those runs, only place in my life I skied where there was virgin waste deep flour like powder and it took at least 1hr of hard skiing to get back down. We had a trip planned for Europe, that year it turned out to be the worst year of skiing in Europe in 20yrs so trip got cancelled so we chose Jackson Hole instead, skied every day for 14 days absolutely loved it. I only went to town one time, sat in the bar there that has the saddles for chairs.Wulfman wrote:You mean THESE places?Snoredog wrote:ONLY if it includes the Mangy Moose Saloon (well stocked in Yukon Jack) and the Rendezvous condominiums at Teton Village where I can stagger to afterwardWulfman wrote:And, I've got some ocean front property in Wyoming.....wanna buy that, too?

My old neighbor Gary runs whitewater rafting trips there during the summer months. He has a wolf for a pet dog. One day I seen him loading up his rafts on the trailer, he had someone come in and do an estate sale and off he went. Haven't seen him since.
I used to travel to every state in the country years ago for my job, Colorado and Wyoming were my favorite places. I have never been to Jackson Hole in the summer but I seen pictures and hear it is even more beautiful. When I was there it was -22F and after a half dozen double shots of Yukon Jack you had to do the boom-shukka-lukka back to the condo.
Re: correct pressure suctions mouth closed?
I sure hope she's not a professional "mouthologist".snoozeandlose wrote:The tech at my sleep clinic who said she has 18 years experience claims if you have the correct pressure it will keep your mouth closed? Is that true?
Correct pressure is crucial, but that claim about the mouth staying closed at correct pressure is false in my opinion. The correct pressure has to do with compensating airway occlusions, and not keeping the mouth closed. Note that some patients here have reported lip or mouth breeches occuring for them at higher pressures only. But once again, that so called "correct" pressure is really intended to address airway occlusions and not mouth breeches. Mouthology 101.

Maybe they meant "SEE level".......as in: "If you climb to the top of this hill, you can see level.....for about 40 miles or so......to that other hill over THERE".
