Setting on Resmed if using Breeze mask

Post by lennyten » Sun Aug 20, 2006 12:28 pm

If you are using the Breeze mask with the Resmed S8 Vantage, do you set it on Swift mask?

Just checking to be sure.

Thanks.

It looks like the Swift setting would probably be the best choice, HOWEVER if you use the "Auto OFF" mode make sure it works. I know with my CL2 the "Ultra" setting looked better, but Auto OFF did not work.

What does you LCD show as the leak rate using the Swift setting? I average .16 with the CL2 on Swift.

Instead of trying to figure out which mask type matches a ResMed mask (i.e. Breeze uses pillows, Swift uses pillows) what you need to look at is the built-in leak rate from the exhaust vent of each mask.

Pick out your pressure...say you use a pressure of 12. Then look at the vent rate for the mask you want to use, using a pressure of 12. Compare it with ResMed masks using a pressure of 12.

Most ResMed masks have a vent flow rate of at least 35 liters per minute at a pressure of 12 cm. So, there really isn't a ResMed mask that would be the equivalent of the Breeze at a pressure of 12 (25 liters per minute).

So, you might as well just pick a ResMed setting for the lowest leak rate mask ResMed offers. I'd go with the Ultra or the Mirage setting (whatever they call it) rather than the Swift setting, as the Swift's leak rate is a leeeetle bit higher at 37. Really doesn't make much difference though, imho.

There isn't any ResMed mask leak rate very close to the Breeze's. Any mask setting (other than full face) would probably be as good a choice as any other. Flip a coin.

Breeze..................pressure 12.....leak (liters per minute) 25

ResMed masks:

Swift.....................pressure 12.....leak (liters per minute) 37

Activa....................pressure 12.....leak (liters per minute) 35

Ultra Mirage Nasal...pressure 12.....leak (liters per minute) 35

Ultra Mirage FF.......pressure 12.....leak (liters per minute) 40

I don't think you are going to improve much on that.
