WAS: BLOWER DIED; now: figgered it out

Post by girlsaylor » Mon Mar 12, 2007 3:44 am

Maybe this will help others.

I thought my machine had croaked. But, after spending some time trouble-shooting, I discovered that condensation had built up in my hose and soaked my hepa filter, causing the blower to not work. I have a sort of traveler bungee cord hooked up over my berth that I hang my tubing over, and the moisture was apparently running back down the tube right onto the hepa filter. Don't know why this has suddenly become a problem. Will turn my humidifier down tonight. Am using a hose cover. But I certainly don't want a wet hepa filter growing lord knows what and giving it a direct route to my lungs. Took off the hepa filter and the machine worked fine last night.

Back in business. Slept with the machine til 5:00 AM (4:00 AM but for the time change).

That's great girlsaylor! Yeah, I definitely don't use that hepa filter, and I have pretty bad allergies. It doesn't hurt me to go without it. I'm so glad you found the solution!
Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.

Since you are obviously in a high humidity environment, you might want to invest in the Aussie heated hose. It will eliminate condensation problems.

Aussie heated hose

Post by girlsaylor » Mon Mar 12, 2007 7:35 am

I've been thinking about that being a possible solution, good to hear someone else confirms my thoughts too.

Just have to find out how much current one of those draws, as I've got only 2 outlets in the berth, one for the machine, one for my HH. The other outlet is for either a fan (summer) or heater (winter), as needed. Only have 30 amps available, and am running a small portable fridge off that as well, plus TV, lights, etc.

Got any idea how much that Aussie heated hose draws?

It's a small amount of power. The hose itself is under 12 watts. Allowing for inefficiencies in the power converter, that's still less than 0.2 amps from 115 VAC. A negligible amount of power, really.

They company supplies for US/Canada customers a 110V / 12 V 1000 ma power adaptor. You might want to get a surge protector and use that in one of your outlets.

Thanks for the amperage info.

And I need to get the surge protectors on all outlets anyhow; thanks for the reminder.

Now I just need to find where to order it.

http://www.sleepzone.com.au/

It has to go through customs but delivery is usually about week to week and half.

That'll absolutely help others. You might want to even change the topic title to something like "Wet Filter Causes Machine Failure" to draw attention to your find.

Aromatherapy may help CPAP compliance. Lavender, Mandarin, Chamomile, and Sweet Marjoram aid in relaxation and sleep. Nature's Gift has these and a blend of all four called SleepEase.
