Another AutoScan 5.7 question

Post by hoyle » Sat Jan 06, 2007 5:05 pm

I have connected my Resmed S7 to my serial port (on computer) with a null cable modem. When I try to download information, the message comes back "no communication"

The serial port setting is at com 1, modem setting is com4,

What could be wrong?

There serial port com setting on the computer should match the serial port setting in the software.

I would try changing the settings in the Autoscan software first.

Try it on each port and see if one of them connects. If it does, that's your problem. If not, you have to keep looking.

Good luck

First of all, I'm assuming that you computer DOES have a "Serial" (9-pin) port. There's been a trend to eliminate all of those other ports (Com & Parallel) and replacing them with USB ports.

If you go into your "Control Panel", then go to "System", then go to "Hardware", then go to "Device Manager", then find "Ports (Com & LPT)", then double click on that. If it's showing "Communications Port (Com 1)", double-click on that and go to the "Resources" tab (far right one) and see what it shows for "I/O Range" and "IRQ". That will give you some information to go on.

You may need to go into the computer's BIOS settings on startup. Depending on what brand of computer you have and what type of BIOS it has, determines what key to hit on startup. Dell computers use F2, some others use the Delete key, etc. Look in an area that MIGHT be called the "I/O Device Configuration". Look for settings defining "Com" or "Serial ports". Depending on some of these variables and the types of ports you have, a Com 1 or 2 port can "hard-configured" with a specific value because many times they are set for "Automatic" from the factory.....which means the system will assign an available value to it.

The values for Com 1 are 378H/IRQ4
The values for Com 2 are 2F8H/IRQ3

Determine which port your AutoScan software wants to assign (or YOU want to assign) to that port and then configure the port in your BIOS to match it.

Best wishes,

Den
