I'm sorry, I wasn't exactly clear.
So it talks directly to a cellular network.
It doesn't require pairing with any of my devices.
But cellular networks require someone to pay for the service. Typically, that would be me for my devices.
Who pays when your new machine calls home over the cellular network?
Then there's the problem of coverage. Different carriers' networks vary in where they have coverage.

Absolutely.
And obtrusive. Not 100% of insurance carriers require reporting for 100% of their patients.

AirView is a cellular cloud based subscription service for DME/Physicians to monitor patients. They (DME/Physicians) pay for the service.xyz wrote:But cellular networks require someone to pay for the service. Patients will be allowed access to at least some of the data through MyAir, a web application companion to AirView.

From a manufacturing point of view it is a lot easier to add a GSM modem to all units than to have a separate one that needs to be plugged in. The cost is not very much even if it is not actually used.xyz wrote: paralel:

If you the manufacturer are pushing the monitoring service as a service and cost center, it is easier to do if every device you are selling already has the ability.
Airplane mode makes it less creepy as you simply turn it off.

However, the big question is, without looking at the code that runs the machine, there is nothing that says airplane mode can't be overridden. With most modern cell phones it is indeed possible to override airplane mode and remotely activate a handset.

It wouldn't be a real airplane mode if the device was still communicating with anything remotely. A proper airplane mode turns the device into a brick communications wise.Paralel wrote:However, the big question is, without looking at the code that runs the machine, there is nothing that says airplane mode can't be overridden. Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
please cite sources for your allegations, because 'airplane mode' turns off the radios, thus making it impossible for the device to receive any remote signals.Paralel wrote:However, the big question is, without looking at the code that runs the machine, there is nothing that says airplane mode can't be overridden. if the device were still operating radios, even in receive only mode, it would create interference that would have the FAA all over the device manufacturers butts. count on it.

Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
I have yet to see a Doc or DME pay for any service that he doe sent pass through or build in to his billing scheme to the patient, US. And we can all make neat little aluminum foil hats for or AS10s to block out the mind control.
Everybody keeps referring to the S10 or S11. The new designation AirSense or AirCurve suggests AS10 or AC10 or perhaps just A10 in common parlance.
I agree that if I were to buy an AS10 I would only want the "for her" model for the same price.
Alas I may have to wait for the PRS1 970 to become available or maybe even the 980 since my 960 is less than a year old. Maybe I will have to look at the AC 10 VPAP Adapt SV Auto.

Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
From the Resmed website for this machine.
In the Full User Guide:
On pg 7 it shows the screen:
My options
Home
Ramp time
Humidity level
Mask
Run mask fit
Airplane mode
That's followed by a list of those features with an explanation of what each does..
My options
Ramp time
Humidity level
Mask Fit
But it stops there. No "airplane mode" explanation.
On pg 9:
Therapy Data
Your AirSense 10 device records your therapy data for you and your care provider so they can view and make changes to your therapy if required. The data is recorded and then transferred to your care provider wirelessly or via an SD card.
Wireless
Your AirSense 10 device is equipped with cellular communication. This allows your therapy data to
be wirelessly transmitted to your care provider to enhance the quality of your treatment. The
Wireless signal strength icon displayed at the top right of your screen indicates the signal strength.
The data is usually transmitted after therapy has stopped. In order to make sure that your data is
transferred, leave your device connected to the mains power at all times and make sure that it is not
in Airplane Mode.
Notes
Therapy data might not be transmitted if you use it outside of the country or region of purchase.
Devices with cellular communication might not be available in all regions."
On pg 11:
When using the device on a plane:
Turn on Airplane Mode.
To turn on Airplane Mode:
1. In My Options, turn the dial to highlight Airplane
Mode and then press the dial.
2. Turn the dial to select On and then press the dial to
save the change.
The Airplane Mode icon is displayed at the top
right of the screen.
So airplane mode might be set to On and left On. apparently.

Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
Compared to S9 Autoset, anyone know what differences in term of algorithms of AirSense 10 ?
S9 Autoset has:
Automatically adjusts breath by breath, (2 cmH2O max)
Central sleep apnea (CSA) detection, which differentiates between obstructive and central
Easy-Breathe technology( minus 2cmH2O with Exhale)

Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
Hi, I have had the new Autoset Airsense 10 for about a week after using the s9 Autoset for 3 weeks.
The biggest thing i have noticed is how quiet it is compared with previous model as well as the info it gives about how you slept and your AHI, leaks,Total AHI, Central AI; as well as maximum pressure on the devices screen.
The hose connection does have a right angle connector but it rotates 360 degrees and is perfectly fine for those who hang their hoses .
The modem is 2G
Any other questions feel free to ask and ill try answer.

Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
My ResMed 10 does not display AHI data on the Sleep Report screen. User manual says you will see this "if set by your care provider". Without having to make a trip back to the provider, is there a way I can set up that option myself?
Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
Go here and request the clinical/provider manual for the new machine. In the clinical manual are the instructions for making the AHI visible to the patient. It's just a matter of turning a setting in the clinical setup menu on....and getting into the clinical setup menu just requires pushing some buttons in a special way. All explained in the manual.Rick999 wrote:My ResMed 10 does not display AHI data on the Sleep Report screen. User manual says you will see this "if set by your care provider". AHI is only available on the Elite or AutoSet models. If you have the plain CPAP model it isn't available.

Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
You just need to get the "Provider" manual for it, and it will tell you the key combination that will let you into the setup screen where you can unlock that feature

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Btw, I have the AutoSet model.
Re: Resmed AirSense just released...will Respironics be next
Just finished 5th night on AirSense Elite - sharing a couple of thoughts.
Love the size, design and quiet of the machine. Have several observations -- if anyone has thoughts .
Using the Rispironics Auto; My AHI was averaging between 1-3 and 95% pressure was 6.5%. No CA.
Using the AirSense : AHI is averaging between 3-4 and 95% pressure is now 9.5. CA between 1-2.
My sleep study of Jan 2014 showed zero CA.
I keep a sleep diary and while I feel morning "beatup" with higher AHI/pressure -- strangely -- think I feel more rested on the Airsense ? Not sure yet - maybe I'm just seduced by the look of it on my bedside
But what is up with these CA ?
