O/T Proud new parent... of a sort.
O/T Proud new parent... of a sort.
Greetings to everyone here. I know that I've not posted here in a while and thought that I'd just give you all a small update. Still using my machine like I should be, at least I think so. I also have become the proud new parent / owner of a Green Cheek Conure. Pick it up yesterday and we're still getting to know each other. Haven't named it yet because I don't know the sex yet. Going to look into getting it DNA sexed so that I can give it a name that matches it's sex.
Hope everyone is doing good.
David

You could give it gender free name - like Thor...... or Leslie.

Awe what a cute bird! I have owned an alexandrine parrot for 8 years now. Had him since he was 4 months old.
One tip I can give you is get rid of all your Teflon pans. Teflon kills birds. Also don't use febreeze it is also a bird killer.

Ditto about the Teflon - look it up - very dangerous.

I've been wondering about the teflon thing myself and all my research says that all will be fine as long as those types of pans don't reach over 500f or they aren't boiled to the point they are empty. Thanks for the advice, I will keep an eye on the issue.
ems, I'll make sure I post what I do name it. I haven't told the wife about it yet, might let her name it.

Please read this - http://www.parrotplace.ca/teflon.htm - and check with knowledgable bird vets, etc. before assuming anything... you can't imagine how badly you'll feel if something were to happen.

I am going to go with Julie. There are new products on the market. They cost a bit more but they are also healthier for you.Julie wrote:Please read this - http://www.parrotplace.ca/teflon.htm - and check with knowledgable bird vets, etc. before assuming anything... you can't imagine how badly you'll feel if something were to happen.

Re: O/T Proud new parent... of a sort.
That sounds like mostly hogwash. The PFOA allegations were about workers in the factory dealing with raw chemicals that are mostly washed out in the final product, and they were exposed to thousands and thousands of pans during the manufacturing process. The other stuff sounds like national enquirer type friend of a friend stories.Julie wrote:Please read this - http://www.parrotplace.ca/teflon.htm - and check with knowledgable bird vets, etc. before assuming anything... you can't imagine how badly you'll feel if something were to happen.
If teflon plans can kill the bird across the room, they'd kill you when you're cooking with the pans.
If it's really killing the birds, maybe that's like a canary in a coal mine situation and it will save you before you keel over dead yourself.
These kinds of nonsense stories grow in the telling.
Re: the bird
Looks sexy. Probably a she. Bet it's noisy around there.
A gender neutral name might be good.
Maybe Red, Pat, Cujo, Pinky, Brain, Paris, Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Dopey, Bashful, Happy, Storm, Casey....

Let's not get into it over the pans. I'll look into this more with a local vet as well. If I have to get new pans, then so be it.
Archangle, Those are some great names. I'll keep those in mind as things go along. Thanks for offering them.
chunkyfrog, I am not gonna name it something that might get it deported. lol

What a beautiful "baby" you've got there! When the name fits, you'll know it.
