dr ordered autoset, came home with escape auto

Post by bowf » Sun Jul 06, 2014 8:06 pm

Title says it all. Dr sent script to the medical supply store for a Resmed Autoset. I picked it up, used it one night, and noticed the next day it didn't collect a lot of the data I was expecting. When I went back to look at the machine, I discovered it was an Escape Auto. Are they going to let me swap or am I stuck with this?

Take it back. The doc ordered the autoset and they substituted.

Threaten them. It is a serious violation of their valuable DME license to fill a prescription with something other than what the doctor specified.

Start out nice. Threaten if need be.

A lesson here? Leave the counter with nothing in your hand unless you are 100% sure it is what you want.

It may not be a sure thing if the prescription doesn't say "dispense as written" or something similar, but go after them anyway.

it's not exactly a generic equivalent sort of situation, which is what the usual dispense as written is for, to avoid generics... but, I certainly don't know

If you are sure that the script says "resmed s9 autoset with h5i humidifier" then you should also check the pressure ordered.
If a max and min is ordered than you should tell them something like you need the ' leaks ' info and other info so that changes can be made in an intelligent way (or the doctor said so) or whatever.
I woud definetely start politely - like an error was made ...

This is horrible negotiating that would weaken his position.

He is in the strongest position =
It says "resmed s9 autoset with h5i humidifier"
.

All he has to say is, "You filled the prescription with something other than what the doctor ordered. I insist you fill the prescription with what the doctor ordered." If it later comes to it, he can say, "I am filing a formal complaint with your licensing board."

This is EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. When I was one day new, I wrote on this site and I believe it was Pugsy that told me that I got sold a "brick." I had no idea what a brick was, but realized also I received an ESCAPE instead of an ResMed S9. Luckily, I was able to exchange this just in time and I received a RES MED S9 the next day. Just today, my sleep clinician told me that there is an investigation going on with this from 6 weeks ago, that I was supposed to not receive an ESCAPE but did. Interesting, I wonder why this happens so often.

That's why the right terminology is so important. Escape and AutoSet are both ResMed S9 models. And watch out for the dreaded S9 Escape Auto, which isn't the same as the S9 AutoSet. And if they say S9 "Auto" like lots of people do, it might be the AutoSet, or the Escape Auto.

If you don't get satisfaction I suggest you (and others) name names and reveal the DME who did this to you. If it's a mom and pop, maybe it's not that critical except to folks in your area, however if it is a big national chain DME (you know who two are ... initials: A and initials: L ) then people need to know that they should be extra vigilant when getting their machines.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
