There are other documented issues and one in particular has relevance for sleep integrity. Just not clear what exactly the impact on my sleep is since I haven't had a sleep study. Weird ANS stuff.

Ask the new guy where he thinks your melatonin peak might be since you're a raging DSPS.

Then the follow-up question re: sleep study start/stop time would obviously be...

He did actually talk about a way of testing melatonin levels -- salivary analysis if I recall correctly. It was an intense hour-and-a-half consultation.

He wanted to send me to Stanford (sans balloon manometry ) but even if he could get my insurance to cover it, I couldn't afford Stanford, and though I've heard they're more accommodating around sleep times, I don't know if they'd accommodate my raging DSPS.

-- with my delayed sleep phase issues I will need to be good and tired to be able to sleep so early at the hospital. Three days off PAP ought to get me there...

why is the sleep center not testing you during your "normal" sleep period? "IMHO", if you take a DSPS person and toss 'em in a strange place with all that junk and end up with an SE of 50%, that data can hardly be called valid.

I've never heard of a sleep lab that deals with odd sleep times. I normally go to sleep between 4 and 6am and get up between noon and 3pm. One of the reasons I waited so many years to get a sleep study is that my mom was expected to sleep at 10pm and was sent home at 5am. Why bother?

When I did finally get my sleep study, I did take an Ambien for that night. And they hooked me up at 10pm but were willing to wait until midnight for a real attempt at sleep. I actually went to sleep a little after 11pm. They woke me up at 8am to go home. So, much nicer than the place my mom went to.

My sleep study went very well. I did a split night study with 2 1/2 hours of diagnosis phase and about 6 hours of titration phase. I was asleep most of the time. Plenty of data and the titration phase was my best night of sleep in many years. The determined my recommended pressure was a range of 11-17. I spend most of my nights between 11 and 13. And I have occasional spikes into to the 15 range and rare spikes into the 16s. I have been up to 16.9 several times and 17 maybe 10 times in 2 years. I rarely have an ahi above 2, usually below 1, and I have had really good success with cpap treatment.

Labs do OSA. Centers do sleep (overly simplistic, but what the hey?)

I've never seen a reason to change my DSPS. And the sleep lab did fine for diagnosing and treating my sleep apnea.
