"Thump" in Airway ???

Post by Popsnores » Mon Feb 24, 2014 9:41 pm

I am new to CPAP therapy and have noticed a distinctive "thump" from inside my airway just as I begin to exhale. This only happens when CPAP is in use, I'm very relaxed, and breathing through my nose. If I breathe through my mouth it won't happen. No pain involved, just a distraction. Do any of you know what causes this? Is it common?

Just a wild thought...Could the "thump" be coming from the mask? The Quattro has a valve that may be making some noise.

Does it happen when you are wide awake or when you're nodding off to sleep? If the latter, my guess would be a pressure pulse to determine whether your airways is closed (obstructive event) vs. open (central).

It usually happens when I'm about to nod off to sleep. The same thing happened during my sleep study using a different brand of mask.
