Let's all play nice

Post by Let me sleep » Sat Oct 26, 2013 10:07 pm

When I went too this site to gain information. And to find
out what my future held . I was a bit surprised I saw
The overwhelming suport and kindness they gave Stormy when
she was in the Hospital. Then I have also seen people
attacking other members like bully's. Which is very uncalled for.
And I will Probley get attacked for justing posting this. I did put
A picture behind my screen name. I'm not going to hide behind
A cartoon Pic.....Let's play nice folks... I know we are all tired but
Come on now.....

Let me sleep, I definitely agree. However, please be aware there is often back story in some of these cases.

But in general we should try to help one another, since the medical system often does not provide us with adequate support.

OK, so let me explain a few things:
  • When noobies join the forum, they always want to change everything around to suit their comfort zone ("Let's divide the forum into sections!" "Everybody needs to post in Shelley Volante font!").
  • In any group assembly, you're going to end up with a typical cross section of people, and consequently, a typical cross section of personalities (although one could easily argue this point. I mean, people who sit around like a lump in "real" life aren't going to join a discussion forum (except maybe as a "lurker")-- however, "IMHO", they would similarly not partake in a live conversation either).
  • Therefore, rather than expecting the group to change to your standards, "IMHO" it would be far more practical for you to simply accept people as they are. Hey, if you're so much better than everybody else, why not just be happy with that?
  • That said, based on your spelling, I would debate the "better" thing.
  • Your prediction that
And I will Probley get attacked for justing posting this. (Gad!!! SPELLING!!!)
while at least implying that you have some basic knowledge of human nature, also suggests you have an overwhelming fear of failure. You might want to work on that.
  • Please show examples of "bullying" and "attacking". "IMHO" these are exaggerations designed to sway to support to your argument. As John notes, there's usually a lot more to The Rest of the Story, and if you're just skimming a few lines, it's probably not appropriate to pass Judgement.
  • "We" are not "all tired", another incorrect generalization. While it may represent an unreasonable goal, I would like to think that MOST people here, once they've been here a while, are in fact, NOT tired (and if they are, then it's not a CPAP problem and need to go to another forum to continue their quest).
  • Also (and again, "IMHO"), asking adults to "play nice", is belittling, and if you were indeed sincere in your comments and analysis, you might want to treat people with a little more respect than that.
BTW, welcome to the forum!

I haven't seen the thread that gave rise to Let Me Sleep's comments, so I'm not responding to that specifically.

But while I'm not so sure about the "bullying and attacking", there does seem to be a propensity on the part of some to engage in uninvited Junior Psychoanalysis. Given that it has nothing to bear on sleep apnea I'd have to say that I find that a little indulgent.

Let me sleep,

I think you had best resign yourself to just skipping over much of the cr@p that gets posted. Pick through to find the information of value to you and ignore the rest.

That's what I try to do (sometimes I don't quite get it done though )
In life there are always bullies everywhere..this forum is no exception.
Yes, sometimes we have some bullies stop by. They like to do what bullies do and the best defense is pretty much the same as in the schoolyard...don't take the bait.
We also have some people who are extremely passionate about their beliefs and tend to vocalize them in the same manner.
They think that their opinion surpasses the opinion of anyone else come hell or high water.
Certain topics tend to bring the best or the worst out of people and it doesn't really matter what I or you or we think of their opinion...they have the right to have it and express it and unless it breaks some rules (which there aren't many) on this forum..they get to have their say just like anyone else.
That's how the forum owners have decided they want this forum to be...they let us duke it out amongst ourselves. Yes, it gets ugly sometimes but for the most part the ugliness is minimal and easy to overlook in the grand scheme of things.

Don't let a bully on the playground keep you from enjoying your recess. They aren't worth it. For the most part the rest of the forum members play fair and are lots of fun....great people to count as friends.

I love this forum, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly! I'm proud to be part of a group that comes here to save lives and helps those who are struggling. We have a pretty high success rate. But like any big family we have some obnoxious relatives who like to create drama(Thanksgiving is coming!). We also have trolls who come in and out to try and bait us, sometimes we fall for it and it makes for "lively" discussion until we get bored and end it. This is certainly not a playground but Sleep Apnea is serious business and that's why we're here to help, but it's entertaining to get off track occasionally and see how people behave in discussions that may hit a nerve with them. I've been guilty of that myself, but in the end I'm part of a group I'm very proud of. Stick around and you'll see what I mean!

Just curious: what happens when you put someone on your "foes" list-do you no longer see their posts?
