What causes the sinus problems?

Post by FattyMagoo » Sat Aug 03, 2013 11:02 am

Is there any particular problem to look for with these symptoms?

- Eyes feel irritated
- Pressure behind the eyes
- Lasts for hours after waking up
- Data looks farily normal (ex AHI 1.6).

Without CPAP I have mild allergies, but it's runny nose and not this big head pressure thing.

The weird part is some nights it happens and some times I'll wake up and feel great.

I don't know if this is your problem, but I've noticed that my nasal pillow (original Swift) many times seems to blow air into my eyes, and I'm not quite sure why, since the vents point downward. My eyes itch alot and feel gritty.
Although I've never used a full face mask, I'm wondering if some of us have pretty sensitive sinuses, and having all that air under pressure blowing up our nose, is a bad idea. I'm looking to try a full face mask and see if my sinuses ease up.
You could also make a homemade sinus spray (1 cup water, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp canning salt (no additives), and get a spray bottle and use that several times a day. it might lubricate your nose and make your sinuses feel better.

Do you feel the pressure also or just the eye stuff?

See your doctor to rule out a persistent sinus infection.
Allergies "make the bed" for infections.
I take an antihistamine nightly, year round, it's the only thing that works.
Some folks get a kenalog shot at the beginning of allergy season.

Chunky wouldn't an infection have to come on a little more gradually?

For example I felt fine yesterday but have all those things in full force this morning...

I used to get sinus infections in what seemed like overnight. I used to get 6 or more per year. Had a great allergist and had 5 years of allergy shots. No big deal or hassle. I haven't had a sinus infection in two years. Not all sinus infections start with allergies, but I am willing to believe alot of them do. I started with the Wisp nasal mask, but recently got the Swift FX for her pillows and I am noticing more symptoms of allergies with the pillows. I am hoping it goes away because otherwise I prefer the Swift mask.

Sometimes an infection just sits there quietly, with no symptoms;
then BAM! one day it takes advantage of your "off night", and makes itself a real pest.
