Hi again from JediMark / SleepyHead

Post by jedimark » Sat Jul 20, 2013 9:41 pm

Hi all,
I'm still alive. I'm just running slowly and foggy again.

I'm very sorry to everyone I've missed here, I know I've also neglected an awful lot of emails. Not intending on it.. it's just some days (well, a lot lately) zip past me before I'm ready for them.

I've put on a few extra kg's (not hideous amounts, just weight I don't want or need) lately, so need to find out if my CPAP machine is still doing what it should... Unfortunately it's not easy to get rid of weight with FM and fatigue issues.. I'll get there eventually.

As for SleepyHead, it's been stagnating a bit on my end (ok, a lot.. I'm sorry! ) because I've been hoping recent Qt updates fixed a couple of major problems, but unfortunately they have introduced new ones that need me to make changes to how some things work underneath, especially with graphics and printing.

I'm very grateful to Rich's for all his work getting the interim updates out.

I'm currently trying to make the graphing system more "Qt friendly", which should open up a possibilities for SleepyHead to run on other hardware, and less of a nightmare for any other programmers to look at.

I hope everyone is breathing and sleeping well.

Regards,

Mark

You are apologizing because the free Sleepy Head software that we all use and love isn't perfect yet? We all owe you a lot. Thank you for all you have done for us. I hope you get your health issues sorted out soon.

I am also apologizing for my newest post (Sleepyhead gone off the tracks again)

I hope you recover and can figure out what is happening to the program..

It has been a lifesaver and when you safety net fails you can go a little nuts yourself.

As I am self tritrating I relied on your sleepyhead program for nighty reports.

Rich

Rich,

While I don't think you can delete the other post because of responses, you can go back and change the title to make yourself look better.

I thought of that but it is a true statement, I am not saying he has gone nuts but the software has...

And I cannot for the life of me think of any other way to say it....

I tried to get help last time around 6/11/2013 when it first when off the tracks...

The readings are insane...

Rich, I am not going to lie and say I haven't had similar frustrations. But the software is free, ok? Even if we hadn't known Mark was ill, that really limits our right to complain in my opinion unless it destroyed our computer which doesn't seem to have happened.

Mark has developed this software on his own free time in spite of having sleep apnea. That is an incredible feat.

I just don't see how posting something like that title is helpful.

I understand but A) it gets read, and b) it did not destroy the computer but it is now unusable it's self.

So it has destroyed its self.

OK I changed it to read : Sleeyhead gone off the tracks again...OK??

Mark, I hope you are feeling up to par soon. The Sleepyhead on my comp hasn't gone off the tracks and I use it to print reports for my doctor who is glad to get them. Take care of yourself and let us hear from you again.
Thank you for this software,
Jane

Well I am dead in the water…

I have uninstalled it three times..it keeps finding the old incorrect data.

I tried deleting the folder: the new install found the old data again..

I moved the folder off the hard drive to a SD Card and removed it before reinstalling and again the NEW install found the old data..so where does sleepyhead keep its data files?? AS they are NOT in its folder…

I really love this and need it so please someone help…

Rich

On the rare occasion when my sleep report screen shows nothing but garbage, Sleeepyhead has saved the day.
Thank you, Mark. Your free product is more reliable for my purposes than most MS products I have used.

One of the problems with offering free software is that people will expect that the author will continue to work on its flaws. (It's been said that any program that has been completely debugged is obsolete!) Look at giants like Mozilla, Linux in its many variants, etc.

Clearly, as people become dependent on such software, they get frustrated. That does not mean that they do not appreciate what the author has done, even though -- through frustration -- they do not express that appreciation.

One problem with any OSA software is that -- according to my sleep doc, who works with equipment manufacturers -- the accuracy of the sensors in the machinery is questionable. He says that -- in essence -- daily numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, although trends may be significant. Only compliance data is accurate.

I have not been able to find any specs that either back his allegation or are contrary to it. Have you seen any?
