Are my nostrils getting bigger...?

Post by Tigerlily » Tue May 28, 2013 11:56 am

Or is it just my imagination??

Is it possible that using nasal pillows can make the nostrils bigger? I don't need that.
If so, I'll need to go with something different.

I guess we would need to see a before and after picture to be able to answer that question...

I was reading a thread yesterday in a different apnea support forum about this, and there were people who were asserting that their long-term use of nasal pillows had enlarged their nostrils.

I have a feeling that this is one where "your mileage may vary", but this apparently has happened to at least some people. It really isn't inconceivable, since that's how some cultures stretch various features that are considered to be beautiful by their cultural norms. There was also some speculation that this is a good reason to change your nasal pillows more often, to be sure that they stay flexible and elastic, which also makes sense to me.

I think that if you apply any outside force to the body on a regular basis the body will respond with movement. Be that teeth with a mask of simply bigger with the nostrils.

Probably there will be CPAP nose jobs in our future.

Have a great week!

4 years now using nasal pillows and nostrils aren't any larger.
Never have used anything other than a nasal pillow mask.
Properly fitted and that includes not too tight...the nasal pillows rest against the nostrils and do not apply any pressure or stretch anything.
Now if too tight... maybe over time it can stretch things.

Seems to me that some pressure must be applied or nasal pillows would come out every time you rolled over...It may be minimal, but again, I'm sure that there's various degrees of minimal *smile*.

Interestingly, a Google search for "Giant Nostrils" revealed these:

Nostrils, that is.

It (Mirage Liberty) leaks if I do. I mean, I have it fairly tight and I still get leaks.
