What's your ZQ score

Post by eeckel » Tue Dec 04, 2012 6:28 am

Hopefully this is a repeat of a previous thread. Nothing came up when I searched.

I'm curious what the average pap users sleep quality might be. I've worked hard to bring mine up from the 50s to the 70s. I know I can do better if I can stop drinking four cups of coffee everyday. What's a reasonable goal for a ZQ score?

Hard to say. I think you need to see what is a good number for you, based on how you feel after a number of nights on the Zeo.

I only use the Zeo sporadically. I'd guess my number would be lower if I used it all the time. My number is in hte high 70's. The Zeo ZQ seems heavily influenced by amount of time sleeping.

Whoa! More ZQ is not better!

As noted, the majority of ZQ is Sleep Time, but too much sleep is as bad as insufficient sleep:

Similarly, in CF's case, running a sleep debt for 5 days out of the week (necessitating "ketchup" on the WE) certainly is not completely healthy either.

"IMHO", a Zeo score needs microanalysis if one is going to use it for anything other than a novelty. For instance, I'm fine running a 68 (manually predicting my score):

For why? I already know what my ZQ would be:

Further:
  • That value is totally out of context in that I am a short-sleeping ASPS;
  • I imagine I could put in a fudge factor (http://www.bulletproofexec.com/zeo-hack/), make it 96.3 and pretty much wipe everybody out;
  • Although it might be accurate (general stage-wise) (The ZEO Irony - ZQ Is Accurate If You're A Good Sleeper) what's the point? [Zeo does not accurately assess bad sleep]

Deltadave, First, thanks for challenging assumptions. That's always good IMHO. But could you please provide a little more information. How do you know 7 hrs sleep is optimal for longevity? What microanalysis would you do on a zeo score? And what would you learn from a microanalysis?

Interesting. The women who got 7 hours of sleep were also the ones with the lowest BMI, the most exercise, lowest rate of HTN, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. I like the way they handled the covariates in the analysis and that they acknowledge that "the effects of sleep apnea may not be fully accounted for by using self reported snoring as a measure of apnea". It's now an older study. It sure would be great to find a study that looks at whether or not severity of sleep apnea impacts the amount of sleep needed for optimal health. I'll add sleep apnea to the list of keywords and browse the literature while I'm at work.

Thanks

I do not understand your research request set. Do you mean treated and compliant?

At any rate, look for stuff by Yaggi. They're doing some big studies over there about mortality and SDB.

The study remains relevant in that those 5409 women are still dead.

Probably a couple more by now.

Oooh I almost forgot- the big Sleep Heart Health Study (SHHS). There's tons of stuff coming out of that. You'll love it.
