Tape for face
Tape for face
I frequently use 3M Micropore Surgical tape on my face - in conjucntion with my mask. Does anyone have another tape they use?

Micropore sweats off too quickly for me.
J&J cloth tape holds quite well--if only it came wider than a lousy inch!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give J&J cloth tape a try.

How is the cloth tape to pull off in the a.m.?chunkyfrog wrote:Micropore sweats off too quickly for me.

Re: Tape for face
I tuck my lips in, so it only sticks to my facial skin.
By morning, I am sweaty enough so it peels off fairly easily.
Everybody's skin is different; my skin is still on the oily side, despite my age.
If yours needs moisturizer, please choose a tape accordingly, or avoid.

Re: Tape for face
Gorilla glue duct tape - so far it's the only tape that keeps my mouth shut and even that not every night - i put 2 overlapping pieces over my mouth (about 5 inches long) and then slightly tare the area right under the middle of my nose or it irritates. Then i secure the ends with two vertical strips of tape about 3-4 inches long. It doesn't seem to do any damage to my skin - surprisingly.

Re: Tape for face
Hmm, thanks CF. My face does need moisturizer most of the time so I should probably stick with micropore. Even then, taking it off in the morning goes something like "ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch..." until it's all off! And then I rub in some 99% aloe gel to calm that red area down!chunkyfrog wrote:I tuck my lips in, so it only sticks to my facial skin.

Re: Tape for face
I use 3" micropore.
To remove it without removing my face, I apply a bunch of baby oil to it and let it sit for 10 minutes or so before taking it off in the morning. I can remove it more quickly if I need to.
It's not perfect, but it's the best I've found so far.

I've been taping for years and use and medical grade paper tape for tender skin. For easier removal in the morning I coat the area around my mouth with a thin layer of milk of magnesia(mylanta works too). I just wipe some on and when it dries I tissue off the excess, takes about 2 minutes all together.

Would you elaborate -- do you put the MoM on at night before taping and let it dry before putting on the tape?bdp522 wrote:I've been taping for years and use and medical grade paper tape for tender skin. I've tried the paper tape and it really tore my skin. I've been using the 3M multiuse blue painter's tape for a long time now and rarely get any skin problems.

Re: Tape for face
A dried coating of milk of magnesia before taping has been discussed here in the past;
I have even heard it suggested at a local support group meeting.
The very suggestion of using an industrial strength adhesive as in "duct" tape on skin needs to be taken conservatively, if at all.
Even my tough skin could not withstand the removal of Duck tape, which is probably why it is used by terrorists and other criminals.

Re: Tape for face
Same here. To reduce stickiness, apply the tape to the underside of your forearm a few times before sticking it to your face. Have also discovered that I don't need to tape my whole mouth. Create a strip about 1 inch by 1/2 inch and put it lengthwise over your lips smack dab in the middle. You might have to use a longer piece depending on how thick your lips are but it's much more comfortable this way.Country4ever wrote:I've tried the paper tape and it really tore my skin. Re: Tape for face
Suz et al., I posted this on another thread recently, but in case you missed it here's another way to reduce how much skin is exposed to the tape -- I put a piece of fabric on the tape where my lips will be.
On the subject of taping, since I started taping I've had an increase in aerophagia -- anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if the air that might have filled up my cheeks and gotten "puffed out" during the night is instead getting swallowed because it can no longer escape through my mouth. Seriously, this is the craziest therapy ever, the ridiculous lengths we have to go to, to make it work!

Still wish there was a way to tape without having a mustache being a problem/concern.
