With PS = 2, we have the following ranges 8 <= EPAP <= 14 and 10 <= IPAP <= 16
With PS = 3, we have the following ranges 8 <= EPAP <= 13 and 11 <= IPAP <= 16
With PS = 4, we have the following ranges 8 <= EPAP <= 12 and 12 <= IPAP <= 16
With PS = 5, we have the following ranges 8 <= EPAP <= 11 and 13 <= IPAP <= 16
With PS = 6, we have the following ranges 8 <= EPAP <= 10 and 14 <= IPAP <= 16
robysue I must be having a senor moment cause this chart confuses me. Is that 8 below equals EPAP,below equals 14 and 10, below equals IPAP below equals 16
RS may have stepped away, so I will attempt to translate the chart, if that's OK.

I believe her point was to show the effect of changing the PS in a ResMed autobilevel in which the Min EPAP setting remains at 8 and the Max IPAP setting remains at 16. With that maximum and minimum set, the PS affects the ranges in which actual delivered IPAP and actual delivered EPAP vary thoughout the night, and does so as follows in centimeters of H2O pressure:

If PS is set to 2, EPAP can vary from 8 to 14 and IPAP can vary from 10 to 16.
If PS is set to 3, EPAP can vary from 8 to 13 and IPAP can vary from 11 to 16.
If PS is set to 4, EPAP can vary from 8 to 12 and IPAP can vary from 12 to 16.
And so on.

So IPAP gets a range to vary in, and EPAP gets a range to vary in, but at any given moment, IPAP will always be exactly above EPAP the precise amount that the PS is set to.

So if PS is set to 4, that means that when EPAP is at 8, IPAP will be at 12; when EPAP is at 8.5, IPAP will be at 12.5; when EPAP is at 9, IPAP will be at 13; and so on.

I hope that helps more than confuses.

All of the above applies to ResMed autobilevels only.

Not to worry I did the same the other day. It seems it is common for posters here to assume that those wishing to help will search for their equipment in their signature line even if it (the equipment) has changed.

Since when the signature is changed it changes on every post ever made (past, present, and future) - I prefer the equipment (mask, machine, whatever) is written into the text of the post. But so many do NOT realize this or figure they will never ever change the equipment they are using (well until next week) but that doesn't help those of us who are trying to help and have to "search" to find out what the poster is talking about.

I simply assume they are using what I am using IF they don't mention anything different - problem solved

Thanks jnk for translating my math lingo to English and clarifying what I meant.

For those of you who are interested in such things, we mathematicians have a number of standard "keyboard" equivalents to commonly used math symbols that are not found directly on a QWERTY keyboard. The string <= is "Less Than or Equal," which in handwritten mathematics or typeset mathematics is the < symbol with one line under it. Likewise, the string >= is "Greater Than or Equal to".

I agree that it was a dumb, dumb dumb decision on PR's part to NOT include a min PS setting.

I assume maybe some obscure patent issues may have prevented that, but I could be wrong.

jnk Than You for putting that into plain English, I understand it now. Robysue Math was my worst subject in school many rears ago so I guess that's why I had problems.

Uncle Dave does know some things.

Here's a Hint tho IF he picks a sports team - you can bet the ranch on the opponent

(May I ask where in CT you were?)

Drove the wife and in-laws up to Clinton Crossing outlets to shop. (Exit 63 off I-95.) Of course, all the people in Clinton probably passed us the other direction to drive down to NYC to shop!

Isn't that where the rich people live? Or just where they shop?

btw - I've never been to the Crossing

Don't know who lives there, but I know poor people shop there--the wife got three pairs of shoes for $60 total at the Nine West Outlet. Some kinda 4th of July sale or something.

We oughta be careful, though, or we just might end up somehow jacking this thread.

If I have my EPAP at 10 and my IPAP at 14 with a PS of 4 what range would I have? Is the 14 the max it would go to on that setting?
