deviated septum, greatunclebill? forgot all about the fact I, too, have one of those guys. thanks for the info. will not be considering trying a nasal only mask.

chunkyfrog, that is a great idea !

as for the auto on, I have tried breathing harder, but stop just short of hyperventilating. Last night, was already laying down, put on mask and it turned itself on before I could hook the mask. That was great. Will try that method again tonight and see if it works.

While autostart is nice and convenient...it takes only a millisecond to tap the on button.

yes, that is true. only takes a moment. I will get the hang of it with more practice. in my case, I like to lay down, watch TV without the mask on and when I start to get too sleepy, then put on the mask. I have it laying next to me. handy. but the machine is too far to reach while laying down. and I am too sleepy, or lazy, to sit back up. it is just a matter of adjustment on my part. thanks.

I understand lazy. Look in the dictionary and you will see my picture.
If machine isn't close by...get something with a little length to it and have it hand to use to push the button if the autostart decides to be picky. Doesn't take much pressure to engage the on button...a ruler, yardstick...anything with some firmness and length you need.

Or you can (try to) train your cat to do it.

I think it was a Comfortgel full that I used, and the PRS1 Auto was iffy on whether it would autostart or not, but covering the anti-asphyxia valve was easy enough.

I don't normally use a FFM, so I didn't experiment a lot.

Depending on where the machine sits, it may or may not be that easy to reach the button, so auto start/stop does have it's advantage. I might have to sit up and disturb the dog in my lap if I want to push the button.

just thought of this after sending message. chunkyfrog, if you are referring to my avatar, that is a drawing I did some years ago of a puma. well, at that time, I also had a siamese cat, so maybe both a puma and my cat are morphed in that drawing. if I still had that cat, he probably could be taught to turn on that machine ! he was smart. thanks again everybody.

We 'cat people' can sense each others' presence.
