What other health issues do you have?

Post by nightranger » Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:05 pm

I am wondering what other health related issues members have?

I have both stomach (IBS) and Thyroid issues.

I also have had an incidence of Atrial Fibrilation.

Do you feel that OSA is a precursor, or a result of your other condition(s)?

This is a touchy subject that not every one is ready to post on a public site.

Yep, I haven't seen a rack or other equipment to coerce us into giving up info about ourselves

I know that not everyone with sleep apnea is overweight, but if one is overweight, sleep apnea is not uncommon. I found that most of my other medical problems were due to my excess weight (diabetes, etc). Since I had gastric bypass many of these issues have disappeared or at least lessened. My cpap pressure is now lower than it used to be. I'm not at all convinced that sleep apnea itself causes everything else under the sun although it may affect things that are impacted by o2 desaturations, imho. But I'm not an expert so wouldn't want to speculate on which comes first - sleep apnea or other problems.

There are lots of reports about underlying medical conditions that are behind Sleep Disorders.

For example, check these two sources for causes:

I don't mind...

High blood pressure (probably not related)
Arrhythmias (one near fatal, may be related, but continue after xPAP)
Peripheral neuropathy, like Charcot-Marie-Tooth... no pain... numbness in feet (not related)
Glaucoma (slim chance it is related, don't know, probably not)
High Cholesterol (probably not related)
Blown L4-L5 disc (not related... work injury a long time ago)
basal skin cancer

I'm 6' 1", 170 (see profile pic) so not overweight by any means.

High blood pressure, was the 'co-morbidity' that made insurance cover my apnea treatment,
even though my diagnosis was only 13 events/hour.
Also T2 diabetes, arthritis, and obesity--no, scratch the obesity!
I've also been accused of being a bit of a flake.

I've probably needed cpap treatment since early childhood, asthma, allergies, DDD,Spondalolathisis (sp>) , Spinal Stenosis, recently arthritis in my hands and wrists from falls pre-cpap.

Comments,

I have it too. Sorry Max, It's very much RELATED! Once you have a Peripheral Neuropaty your brain is affected too.
Your vestibular system is also affected b/c of it i.e. balance, Veritgo, Tinnitus, etc.
I had rehab b/c of my vestibular problem for 3 months. It helped a lot.

Also, I have L4-L5 Spondylolisthesis besides herniated disc and Spinal Canal Stenosis. L3 -L4 and L5-S1 are also affected.
The cause is Arthritis.

http://www.1backpain.com/backspondylolisthesis.htm

Next week, I plan to get an epidural steroid spinal injection there which will allow me to proceed
with physical therapy for balance and strength and then be able to go back to the gym again.

I was 6' 2" but now 6" 1/2" 220 lbs. Almost like Clint Eastwood except my weight should be lower.

True. My mom has CMT and she's gone deaf from it. I fortunately do not have balance, veritgo, tinnitus, or hearing issues [yet]. One of the indicators of CMT is hammer toes, but I don't have that, but there's enough genetic mutations associated with CMT that people can manifest diversely. Mom having it and having numb spots developing on my feet, left foot mostly, is enough to diagnose, but hopefully my case will be mild. Now, whether CMT can cause an issue with obstructions during sleep, I don't know. Maybe, maybe not, in my opinion.

I thought I was in good health, but I have the following:

High cholesterol and high triglycerides (+700) I see an endocrinologist in a few weeks
Hypertension
RLS
OSA with UARS
Hayfever
Nighttime athsma

I am only 43 and I have a shoe box full of meds, that I really don't want.

My wife and I started an exercise program, I derailed mine but my wife is doing great.
