Sleep Quality "improves with age"

I've often heard that older people (specifically seniors age 65+) don't need as much sleep. Additionally, if you are retired, chances are you may not have to get up as early as when you held down a full time job. I wonder if this contributes to the quality of better sleep that the older folks are experiencing?
