I use the plastic jug it came in.

Unless you dump it out and rinse often, most municipal tap water will deposit white scale on the inside of your tank and slime will grow in the tank. This may actually do no harm, but I don't want it in my tank.

Fill a mason jar with water, sit it out and let all the water evaporate. Or boil a microwave safe glass container of water away in the microwave. Fill and repeat a time or two. Get grossed out at what you see in the bottom of the glass.

With distilled water, the tank stays a lot cleaner with a lot less effort on your part.
