Hi, have been going thru same hell for 3 1/2 months. Every day thinking it will go away.

Today I went to Doctors and she is going to treat it as thrush. I had no idea that the CPAP
equipment could be the culprit. I will wash it more often now. Maybe every day, lol

Last time I had thrush, I bought chewing gum for my hubby and myself.
I let him chew it first, and then I "rechewed" the same gum, which repopulated my mouth with good flora,
which went to work on the fungal infection.
Disgusting, but it worked within a day's time.
There is NO WAY your CPAP could be at fault!

In the year before I was diagnosed with OSA I had several oral thrush infections, also a persistent ear infection, that lasted for the better part of 8 months, on and off. My nurse diagnosed it as fungal but the ENT specialist thought not, and was at a loss to figure out what was causing such pain.

I was sent for blood work, my nurse thought I might be diabetic or have an immunity problem, so I was concerned.

My blood glucose came back normal, ditto all the other tests, so I just continued to try to get rid of these infections as they arose, really annoyed because there seemed to be no rhyme or reason as to why I was getting these.

Since I've used CPAP I haven't had another ear infection, and my tongue is now back to normal, no more white coating, no more episodes of thrush.

I'm not sure how this came about, why in my case untreated OSA caused a white coated tongue and persistent earache and ear infections but I'm just so pleased to be rid of them. My sympathy to those who suffer these complaints, they are very uncomfortable and often not that easy to resolve with medication.

Arlene if I had to guess I'd say that before cpap you were a mouth breather which dried out your mouth and lead to an infection. Why this happens to some and not others could be due to some other health issue or their environment - what is or was in the air they mouth breathed. But in any case glad you are better.

Of course I kiss the bullfrog! He is my prince!
Kissing is how we increase the biodiversity of good flora in our bodies.
Sex helps too, usually.

transplanting bacteria seems to be the new thing...

what with fecal transplants to cure C.Diff infections and IBS, etc. and recently, I saw something, somewhere, might have been in Mens Health, saying "if you've got very stinky pits, try rubbing a cloth on the armpits of a less stinky family member, then on yours... let their less stinky bacteria take over."

I always like hearing about promising new treatments for debilitating and sometimes fatal conditions
