Respironics BiPAP Auto SV Advanced question.

Post by dllfo » Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:28 pm

1. I use Encore Pro 1.8.65 and my Advantage won't talk to it. Any suggestions? My SV still talks to it just fine.

2. My wife woke me up with the Advanced running from low "rpm" to high "rpm", then back down. Low rpm to high rpm. I wanted to check my Smart Card but could not read it.

Any suggestion? Thanks, Dave

EDIT: It was pointed out I used the term Advantage instead of Advanced. Appreciate the adult supervision DSM...

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

Dave,
No answer for your question but just a big hi

Glad you are still showing what a tough battler you are & that you are getting by, obviously quite well

DSM

PS also am sure you mean to title this 'Bipap SV Advanced' (& not Advantage). ?

DUH!!!! Yeah, you are right. Advanced is the correct term. I have developed a new problem. Undiagnosed Rib Pain which hits me like a freight train. It is like having all your ribs broken at one time. I can barely breathe because of the pain. 60mg of oxycodone mitigates the pain so I can breathe some. Strange thing to have.... last attack I got a small warning, laid down on the floor, took 30 mg of oxycodone and had the wife bring one of my SV units in, with oxygen hooked in. I laid on the floor with the SV keeping me conscious. My first attack like this was around July 27, 2009. After several ambulance trips we realized the ER could not help, so I try to lay down and handle it at home. Really odd. They have done MRI, CT Scans, lab tests and none have helped us figure it out.

Doctors are stumped, may have to go to Johns Hopkins hospital. One of my doctors says they have a specialist there who might be able to help me.

So you see DSM, my fun meter is about pegged. Any more fun and I don't think I could stand it. Take care, Dave (I was 66 years old a few days ago)

Same machine here, and yes, it will rev up and down quite a lot for no obvious reason. With no change in air output!
It does make you wonder what it's trying to do.

thanks SkipperT, that is a little encouraging. If you saw my other thread you know I hit 30cmH2O way too often for my taste, so having a machine sound like it is in a "runaway" mode of some kind is disconcerting to say the least.

It also wakes my wife up. Now that I know someone else has the problem, I will ignore it for now. Apparently there aren't too many of us using this machine.
Thanks again...Dave

I've noticed it as well, especially when it is increasing my pressure, however I too have noticed it when it is not increasing my pressure
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Perhaps it's taking a page from the Mr. Big Bad Wolfe ... It sounds as if it's huffing and puffing!

Typically how a Biap AutoSV (not the new System One version) 'revs up and down' is if the airflow is blocked & the internal 'air valve' is opening and closing the airflow to the external port vs redirecting the air backinto the blower fan. The 'airvalve' is modeled on how a loud speaker cone is driven.

This model Bipap has a motor that runs at a constant speed. It has the separate 'air valve' to direct air out of the fan motor and to the external airhose or back into the input side of the fan motor. That airvalve is able to do so in milliseconds. If the external airflow is blocked or going nowhere (i.e. Dllfo stops breathing) the air valve will cycle the air flow to the airhose than back to the fan motor then back to the air hose then back to the fan motor etc:. It will do that at the current breathing back-up rate and will increse the max pressure to maximum after 3 breaths of no flow. It will then do this alternating between epap - max ps - epap - max ps - epap - max ps etc:

The noise you are hearing is the load being shifted onto & off the fan motor as the machine controller cycles the air valve to redirect the airflow. It is trying to restart breathing. In Dllfo's case, he isn't responding and eventually his brain signals an alert that wakes him & the 1st thing he hears is the load-unload-load cycle coming from the machine.
