Personal Exp. with In Home Testing for sleep disorders

I had my sleep test a home. A meter was stuck on my finger and a monitor was strapped to my chest, while a canula was attached to my nose. I returned the gear the next day to the DME. There is a SD card in the chest monitor which he read and told me that I have mild sleep apnea and he sent a report to my GP (who had referred me to the DME). The GP then called me and advised that I take the one-month long test with the CPAP. I did that, and I then picked up my new CPAP on Thursday and am now going into my 5th night of sleeping with it. There was no charge for the sleep test, but $100. for the rental of the CPAP for the one-month trial, which was not covered by insurance.

Ok I am back. The costs for a full night PSG at my DME's "sister" company's place is $650, if done privately. With insurance, it can cost nothing, besides the cost of insurance.

Is it bc you didn't have an official diagnosis of OSA?

No, I didn't get a copy of the sleep test. It was forwarded to my GP and I was only told verbally that I have mild sleep apnea, no snoring, no Centrals, 7.8 OA. If it were not for having uncontrolled hypertension, I wouldn't even use the CPAP. My insurance didn't cover the rental of the machine, because that's just their policy, I guess. However, 80% of the cost of the machine, humidifier & mask are covered every 5 years. I should be happy with that. But after the insurance coverage is deducted and purchasing EncoreViewer 2.0, I'm left with a bill of $630. Sure hope the CPAP lasts 5 years. Life is good!

My son is with Kaiser who did the home sleep test with wires like Puffer had. They diagnosed and handed him a new Respironics Auto M. I went in with him to make sure they didn't bulldog him into an inappropriate machine. They said the tests shows he needs a machine and this one will adjust to give him what he needs for treatment. Made sense and saves them money also.

so I can speak from experience!!
