Polling all Swift FX users

Post by JointPain » Mon May 16, 2011 2:46 pm

Although I find the side strap covers make the Swift FX a bit more comfortable, they also allow it to move around a lot more when I move my head and/or roll over, causing leaks. Without the covers, they stick a bit to my face and basically don't move. So, I will probably not use them. I'd be interested to know about your experiences, and if anyone has found a way to have the software of the covers but without the leaks.

I do use the pad-a-cheek covers with the Swift FX, but since you mentioned that yours moved around more with the covers causing leaks, the I'm going to try it without the covers! Everytime I turn to the side, I, too, get leaks. This poll may have solved a problem for me. Thanks!!

Use a little Lansinoh (pure lanolin) on your nares every night, and it'll seal all night.

I get red marks without the covers. But there are some other tweaks to stabilize the mask:

1) sew some hook-side (the stiff side) velcro inside the back strap to cling to your hair. Or, if you have long hair (I don't) pull a pony tail over the back strap.

2) Hang your hose so the weight of the hose doesn't pull the pillows out of your nose when you move.

Lanisoh never works for me as a sealant. It makes the pillows slippery and less able to seal. But others report it does a good job for sealing, so you'll have to experiment on your own.

Absolutely not.........it's not a petroleum product. You find it in any baby department for nursing mothers--used primarily to prevent cracked nipples when nursing.

It is a secret to success both when getting masks to seal and protecting your skin, without harming the mask.

I do, but I don't think you're going to like it.

I think I meant "soft wear". Silly me.

Oh, and K-Y jelly or Astroglide (my preference) absolutely seals the pillows to your nostrils and stops leaks. Use sparingly. A little goes a long way.

Thanks all for the advice.

I am using Astroglide at the moment. It helps the pillows to seat properly initially and eventually seems to get bit sticky, so that at the beginning the pillows are quite well sealed. I imagine the Lansinoh would be roughly similar.

The real problem is the force of the pillow on the strap when I turn over and my head settles into a new position. With the side covers on, the strap preferentially moves with the pillow not my head, and pulls the pillows out. I think I would need something more like superglue to stop that .

The velcro idea sounds like it might be just what I need. I will give that a try.

Oh Slartybartfast, you were so right. I'll try the velcro first.

Instead of those thin little strap covers provided with the Swift FX, I use a fleece pad that covers the entire silicone part of the frame made by Padacheek. Keeps that silicone strap from getting tangled in my curly hair and helps pad that place where the backstrap comes into the silicone part of the frame since I find that "hard" when I lie on it when sleeping on my side.

Yes,I do use covers but I made my own, they work much better than those little ones that come with the mask.
I have no moving of the mask at night.

Do you apply the Astroglide to your nostrils or the pillows? I might give it a try.
