How many hours does your machine have?

Post by Bluecat » Fri Apr 15, 2011 5:12 am

I have just been wondering how many hours your current machine has? And how long your previous machine(s) lasted (in terms of hours)?

I have just passed 500 hours on mine.

A CPAP machine should last 15000 hours. (about 5 years). Many last longer.

I had new S9, but changed to a used VPAP Adapt SV that I had serviced after the purchase (cleaned and pressure test/adjust). It had only 590 hours when purchased and about 700 now. I was told it had "years" left on it.

My previous machine, a Nidek Silenzio, had over 30,000 hours on it when it died last November. That was 13 years of use on a device that had a 3 yr warranty. I got my money out of that machine.

The first S9 Autoset that I got was replaced when it had 455 hours. My current S9 has 540 hours.

My new machine listed below has 575 hours on it today. My prior machine that I started treatment with in 2006 is a REMstar Auto with C-flex has 10,988 hours on it today. Maybe I need to use it a couple more nights to hit 11,000

My S8 II has 2414, and my S9 has 540. Both are good machines.

About 21 years ago I started with a Respironics CPAP unit. I use my units about six hours per night (on average). I used it for about 2 years.

I then switched to a Respironics BiPAP unit. I had it for about 15 years. When it died, I went back to my CPAP unit until I could get a replacement.

I then got another Respironics BiPAP unit. (An M series unit). I used it for a couple years until it was clear that I needed more.

I was then titrated with a Resmed ASV unit. It lasted almost two years (but was fortunately still under warranty). The bearings on it started to scream. I got a replacement unit ... and a backup Respironics ASV unit, in case I needed it.

So, the shortest was about 2 years (about 4,400 hours) and the longest was 15 years (about 33,000 hours) !!

All told, over the past 21 years that's abut 46,000 hours for those units. That's assuming an average of 6 hours (which might be low).

After approximately 202 days, I've got 1775 hours.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.
