Weightloss Surgery Update

Post by Titrator » Thu Dec 29, 2005 8:49 am

It has been almost 9 weeks since I had the RNY Gastric Bypass and I have now dropped 57 lbs. I still have a long way to go but it is progress.

I had a sleep study two nights ago and my pressure has dropped from 19cm/13cm on a bipap to 11cm on a cpap. I have never seen such a drop and certainly didn't expect it.

All is well, just still a little fatigued.

Happy New Year!!!

Ted the Titrator

That is wonderful news! Congratulations!! Be gentle with yourself and don't overdo it (rest is a good thing, as we all know). It is terrific that you are seeing such great results (with the weight, and with the pressure)!

Congrats Titrator on the weight and drop in pressure. Way to go!!!! It gives a lot of us out here who are overweight encouragement to see how well you are doing. I have one question for you...why a CPAP machine? Since you will probably lose more weight in the coming months, I'm surprised you don't have an APAP to help with the pressure adjustments. That way you won't have to continually have to have Sleep Studies, well, at least until you get to your ideal weight. Just a thought.

Yes.. actually an APAP is the way I am going. It is important to keep up with pressure drops without going back to the sleep lab every 2 months.

Ted,

Its great to hear that things are going so good for you. What are you able to eat at this point?

I just had the Lap Nissen Fundoplication for GERD so if your familiar with that surgery you know that they use about 1/3 of your stomach to wrap around your esophagus to strengthen the LES. So I'm dropping weight as well. I am trying to advance my diet from pudding consistency but it isn't going well, can't keep much down except (now get this: coffee my favorite, drinks, cream of wheat, soggy cereal YUM, and anything like mashed potatoes, etc.)

I'm interested to hear how your eating is going, maybe we could compare notes.

Email me. Hope to hear from you soon.

Heidi

hey Ted,

11cm on APAP!

...pretty soon you'll be one of us guys with plain old vanilla OSA.

How many extra holes have you put in your belt?

Sincerely,

Ted kindly let me see his latest Encore Pro file via PDF email attachment today. I had seen some of his previous data files before the surgery and weight loss.

Wow, what a difference! Lower pressures are working so well for him now! Nice low AHI of just 3.3.

Super, super results, Ted!! Thanks for the updates.

It has now been 14 months since my gastric bypass surgery. I am down 120lbs and my bipap pressure went down from 20cm/14cm to 9cm on average from my Remstar Auto C-Flex.

My blood pressure was checked last week at 117/76, so I am very happy about that one. Also, I no longer have blood sugar issues. My energy levels are way up and I am sleeping better than at nearly 400lbs. I still have 40 to 50lbs to go in the next year, but it is slowly coming off month by month. Just not at the same pace that it did in the first month after the surgery.

All is well...

Ted

Anybody have gastric bypass surgery places advertising on TV in your area? In the OKC area they are running a bunch of ads including ones that infer that the surgery will cure sleep apnea. I know that it will help, but have my doubts about a cure.
